Everton youth vs PL youth

The evidence to the contary is that over 4 years, two 20 year olds he paid more than a million pounds became regulars.

There's nothing to indicate he's any more likely to play young players than the average prem manager. This idea that he's another paul lambert seems to be entirely wishful thinking.

Paul had to play the kids cos the whole team been ripped apart over the last 2 years, where we have a great team already build. I recken our young kids are better then Wigan for starters plus Martinez got more balls and might give Barkley a decent run. Moyes could have done that this season when he played Neville in midfield.

Nobody is saying that though.

He also got Miyaichi from Arsenal on loan aged 20 and the only reason he's not been in the team is injuries. Thats five young players he's either paid money for and brought into the squad or brought in on loan specifically to play. How many times has Moyes done that in the past four seasons ?

By the age of 22:

McCarthy 100+ appearances
Moses 70+ appearances
McManaman 40+ appearances
Sinclair 20+ appearances

There was a thread recently about the number of kids we had in the England under 19/20 squad. This chart may be a better reflection of our prowess. It shows the number of minutes English players under 21 achieved last season at each PL club.

Hang on, who's getting a game for Tottenham who's English and under 21?

So full list, by the age of 22:

Miyaichi never actually started a league game.

McManaman started 8.

Obviously he's got a better record than Moeys but christ that's not exactly hard.

The BBC have a similar article on their website today. Makes depressing reading. Some surprising/interesting info from it, though:
- I'm surprised Villa show behind us (and almost everyone else) in the table. I thought they'd used loads of young kids last season.

- Chelsea have had the best rated youth team for the past few years, but didn't play a single English under 21 last season. Says it all about how youth football is going.

- Stoke haven't played a single English under 21 for the past 3 years.

The BBC report shows that the same decline is happening in all major European leagues. Spain is now almost as bad as here, which surprised me.
