Everton Youth Teams Thread

I think he'd make a decent right-back for the U21's with Finney (if he sticks around).
He seemed to be able to put in a shift, but I wonder if there is a need for another body who can “sort of” play right back when you’ll already have Davis/Pita/Gardner, not including Finney or Lambert (who also ages out of the U18s also this summer).

Yeh you just wonder who’ll be released. I don’t think they’ll use Pita there again, maybe another loan for Pita, Davis will be turning 20.

Did he say where he was heading off to?
Wren is the other one I’m curious about, made his debut a year early but could never really seem to hold down a starting spot. Flashes of excellence but seemed fairly mercurial.

Other interesting one will be Matos. I don’t think he’s signed a pro contract yet but has been getting regular minutes of late and I think made a few u21 appearances?
Didn't say no but I'd imagine it's a level down if he's staying in football.

I'd imagine they want to keep Matos as he's a handy player across multiple positions. Wren on the other hand will likely come down to who's departing and if we need squad depth in the 21s. Pretty sure Boakye and Beaumont-Clark are the only expiring deals as wingers. So Pita, Catesby, Ebere (if he's even still playing), Benjamin, Clarke would be our 21s wingers with the likes of Robert, Moses pushing to move up. Tough to see a spot for Wren unless others depart

Ebere and Benjamin need to go IMO. Not good enough, never will be, just blocking pathways. Get a bit of money for them both.

I don't think we would get practically any money for either of them tbh. Ebere has played about 10 mins of football in the past 4 years and Benjamin was let go by Arsenal and will shortly follow suit here.

I can see value in keeping Benjamin around for at least the first half of the season so that there's a bit of experience and quality in the frontline next year. I imagine the front 3 will be some variation of Benjamin, Loney, Pita/Catesby. Without Benjamin that attack looks even more toothless. Bit similar to keeping Odin Samuels Smith around. He's not good enough, he'll never make it, but he adds value to this 21s team in that he's not blocking anyone and makes others better.

Ebere on the other hand not so much.

Are we in a position to keep our better academy players now?

Are we also in a position to be scouting top young players and improving the youth teams significantly or are we still putting things in place since TFG arrived?

Oh I’m not talking a lot of money, even just a few thousand from a league 2 side, just start getting rid instead of always releasing people. Benjamin for a bit of quality? Nah, he’s bang average 95% of games for me.

With OSS, he’s only not blocking anyone because we have no decent LB’s in U21. He should go and we should be buying one.

….i think there’ll always be a danger of the best youngsters at most clubs being poached these days and I don’t totally blame them for taking the money.

Clubs dispose of most young players, the ones that are in demand are not guaranteed a future in the game so it’s no surprise when they accept what’s on offer.

Just picking out a few points from above. Matos is for me someone who can contribute a lot at u21s , injuries etc seem to have slowed his development and Olayiwola and Akarakiri have moved ahead of him, but he is likely to kick on a bit more. Davis is enjoying himself at right back , he’s a bit like Joe Anderson was at left back a few years ago , not a natural full back but doing a decent job, makes and scores goals. . Apart from the usual suspects Shea Pita is one who excites me, his full back days were I think just to ease him back after injury, but he’s a natural tricky winger who can score goals. I think he’ll kick on again next season if he gets more u21 opportunities.

Don't forget there is 8min highlight's of the 5-3 win via Man City. Free sign up or log in if you have from previous times

Who is number 5 on their first goal btw? Instead of like diving in to try block a shot he just turns around mid play to look at the linesman?!

lol I tried a password I used about 5 years ago, worked straight away. Surprised I haven't been hacked more often.
It worked for me too, I really must stop using “ Evertonfc” for all my passwords 😉
Nice work from Jake Doughty for his goal and good pace away from defenders to earn the penalty - shame about the way he missed it !
Harry Brookes looks quite a unit in midfield for a 16 year old, haven’t seen enough of him to judge his footballing ability.
Olayiwola played a part in four of those goals, two were good early passes in the move before the goals, the other two were pressing high and winning the ball back to set up the goals. A cracking range of skills he has.
