One of the best, very best goalscorer and footballer I have ever seen was very small and slight but from the age of 16/17 was scoring goals for fun, Jimmy Greaves with Chelsea when the game was a lot more rougher and tougher than it is now, Graham was playing against men in the Irish league at 15 yers of age and scoring goals there and has carried on scoring goals since he moved to us, all he needs is to be given a chance.
Lucky enough to see Greaves, whenever he picked up the ball in the box you'd hold your breath and pray he didn't slot. Denis Law was physically slight as well but a top striker.

Over 70 years ago this is now mate.

Obviously....we could just use Pele as an example / excuse to start ever single 16 year old.

Or Dixie Dean....he was small....lets just start every small kid too.
Was Dixie small? Don’t think so, I just missed him playing in a charity game in the late 1940’s at South Liverpool. Pele was like Wayne Rooney a once in a lifetime footballer although Maradonna, Cruyff and the Argentinian who scored plenty for Man. City, Aguerra (? ) were not very tall but came under the heading if you’re big enough you’re old enough and good enough.

Brilliant and slightly unexpected news

Edit: great quotes in there too stating that he'll be training with our first team while playing for Southport. A much better use of that 4th goalie spot than in the last few years. Smart management from the club.

Tends to be what happens at this level.

Fraser Barnsley trains with Marine twice a week, the rest with Everton, as did Samuels-Smith.

Same for lad at Prescot, great development opportunities all round to be exposed to first team too.

Dixie was just over 5ft 8.

Five foot ten was Dixie I think.

I
A bit daft we only gave him a 2 year contract as he was in the England set up when he signed it. From his perspective, it’s not easy at 19 getting a decent contract with another club as he’s unproven in men’s football, you’d have thought he’d take a new contract with us on decent wages and go out on loan at League2 level.

I do find it difficult to judge young goalkeepers though. He seems to be of a similar standard to Harry Tyrer at the same age and he’s now 2/3rd choice keeper at League 1 Cardiff.
I’m glad Pickford and the club agreed the deal and the loan, for me it just adds interest if one of our youngsters is out there proving himself. The most likely scenario though is that he doesn’t play for an Everton team again but makes his way into League1/2 after 2 or 3 loans.
