Part of the problem is people are not watching him play at u18/u21s , they’re just seeing his goals and understandably, rightly, getting excited without knowing much about his weaknesses and style of play.
I think we can all agree he’s not a striker, let’s end that. Tate has him playing 11 in a 4-2-3-1 , and it’s working very well for him. He’s no
Grealish , doesn’t go outside his man, doesn't cross high to our 9 , he drives inside the box takes on defenders and either passes low across the box or shoots. He’s expected to track back and defend, and Tate has them pressing much like the first team with the 9 ( Sherif) and 10 ( Olayiwola) the furthest forward doing high press, 11 and 7 further back .
He’s drifts from 11 into the inside right position at the right time, as impressive as his goals is his movements to get into these positions at the right time without exposing our left back cos he’s gone awol. He’s a team player and doesn’t go missing , the worst you could say he’ll sometimes shoot when he could have passed. What goal scorer doesn’t. These are all traits that
Moyes likes, whether he thinks he’s good enough I don’t know, scoring against u21s/u18s is we all know different from playing in the PL .
I’ve said this often , he could play a role in support of our 9 , in a number of positions depending on our format , particularly if we have a back 3 it opens up options. The logical initial move though if we continue 4231 is to bring him off the bench into the 11 position, he’s proved he can play that role , score goals, threaten defenders and importantly for
Moyes track back and do as he’s told.
Oh, and kudos to Paul Tate for finding the right role for him and allowing him to develop.
