Agreed blueloon. I had high hopes for him as he looked the part aesthetically but his defensive qualities are sadly lacking against balls over the top or when players run at him. Maybe he's the type who'll find his way as he matures and like you say he'll have a career lower down the pyramidYeah Welch is doing a good job as Captain and “ Senior” defender stabilising our defence and helping to bring on Thomas and Tamen. He is often quite dominant at this level, but sadly just not good enough for us and likely destined for a League 1 club, where he’ll be fine.
Pickford has a wrist injury. Not sure on Doug but clearly injured. ZLL is technically an overager but shouldn't be stopping him. Just seems he's stuck in limbo needing football. What’s happened to all our goalkeepers, we only seem to have three active ones at the moment, Barnsley u21, Patrick u18 and Eze has been cover at both u21and u18 this week.
I've liked the look of him in FAYC games but let's not get well ahead of ourselves. The fact his contract was up for expiry before Thelwells departure and he's only ever played 3 mins of u21 football shows he's not that highly rated at the club. Patterson, Gomez and Armstrong are 3 lads around his age that are all ahead of him, as are Metcalfe and Olayiwola who are 2 years older/younger. It'd be nice to keep him but I'm not sure it's a desperate need outside of fielding a competitive u21 team next year.Just read that Harvey Foster’s contract runs out in June 2025. I hope losing Thelwell doesn’t mean we take our eye off the ball in renewing contracts for the promising younger players. He is definitely one to sign on a longer term deal – a beautiful passer of the ball and seems to have an eye for goal when shooting from outside the box. And he plays extremely well with Armstrong so could be potential central midfield partnership in years to come.
