Everton Youth Teams Thread

We aren't catching the manc clubs but finishing 3rd would be great achievement and very doable, but just annoys me even more getting knocked out of the cup by Plymouth
Yep very annoying, reminds me of that time when we had Dowell, Davies, Walsh , etc and lost 1-0 in the 3rd round , Villa maybe ? We’ve got the RS in one of the last games , they’re next to bottom , so we’ll have two sent off and lose 1-0 . Optimism meter is high with these kids though , just got to enjoy them without too much expectation.

Is Sherif meant to be something special?

I know nothing about him, but an article came up on my Google feed saying he's meant to be the next big thing from the academy

Not really, never had major hype around him. He's always had a good goal scoring record and has played youth international football so he clearly has some potential but don't think anyone has big hopes for him. He's made it onto the bench mostly because he's got a good size and DCL, Broja and Chermiti were all injured, not because Sherif was really outstanding.

The next big thing from the academy is almost certainly Braiden Graham.

Whose he then?

What's his position and how far away is he (i.e. what age group?)

He’s well liked Sherif, he was a lot higher rated about 2 years ago but still clearly has his admirers.

I think he’s got a chance, he still looks raw at times facing back to goal though.

So many of the bigger lads look boss at younger ages because defenders just bounce off them and their longer stride makes them seem faster etc. then when they step up into the mens game, those physical advantages no longer exist and they are often found out. Similar to th smaller kids, who never get that growth spurt, so come up and are proven too lightweight. It would be nice to see a striker come through though, its been a while since that happened.

….beyond Rooney we’ve had a few that came through at a young age but didn’t quite hit the heights, even Jeffers who won a full England cap. James Vaughan, Cadermateri, Branch, Anichebe, Jevons et al. It’s such a more difficult skill set required for forward players although physicality and athleticism are clearly factors.

Looks to me like Braiden Graham is all about quality over physicality. Not the same level, but reminds me of Rooney in how he takes possession and looks after the football, lovely to see such a talented footballer not reliant on his size and power, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s seen on the pitch for the first team at some point this season.

I hope so mate, it is nice when we get them through the academy :)
