Everton Youth Teams Thread

….hugely disappointing but my immediate thought is of it being some performance by Plymouth. I’d keep a copy of the match programme and look at it in 3 years time, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a very good player in that Plymouth side.

Their full back (Shields?) had an excellent night after looking like he was going to be taken apart by Clarke initially.

The conditions weren't an issue btw. They've played the earlier rounds in worse weather. They just decided to not play a midfield
That was our downfall , outnumbered in midfield first half , Oliyawola is a talented 15 year old but not a patch yet on what Armstrong would have given .
Then they had 9 behind the ball 2nd half., when I thought we created enough chances to get an equaliser, so I don’t agree with this ā€œ they outplayed usā€ . People tend to go overboard whenever the youth team lose , we lost to a team who tracked back , defended well and ran their socks off .

I'd say they 'outplayed us' in the sense that (apart from the last 15 minutes) a loose midfield ball either always went to a Plymouth player or to an Everton player who was immediately closed down. And they were very clever playing the ref with that close pressing and their slighter size. Very soft free kicks given all game (and we failed to react to that tactic).

Added: from a more positive point of view, I thought Van Schoor had another decent game.

Did you watch it or just going on comments?

….neither really. I’ve sat for 90mins looking at the ā€˜Flash Score’ and popping in and out of here.

I just think it’s some result for them. I’ve played down there myself a bit, they have a fair catchment area with the dock workers so I’d imagine there’s a few linked to that. Coming up here and not being scared to get a result says a lot to me.
