Everton Youth Teams Thread

I lose track of, forget, or just don’t see some of the loans and deals that are made at u21 level in a transfer window. This is what I think happened this time , have I missed anything ?
Out : Stanley Mills Oxford; Charlie Whitaker Notts County .
Loans: Harrison Armstrong Derby; Bradley Moonan Prescott Cables .

I thought some others like Luke Butterfield would have been out on loan too.
That looks right to me. And Onyango and Welch both returned from their loans.

Can remember reading the independent article. Was surprised to read that they’d drastically cut hours. This is the financial backdrop those at the club have been working against
It didn’t make a lot of sense, cost saving would have been minimal and as eluded to elsewhere in the article youth development doesn’t have the same PSR constraints as other areas , a lack of foresight by people in place at the time.

Yeah I guess it was just a case of Moshiri turning the money taps off generally

This came out originally in the “ I paper” last November , it is/was behind a paywall so it generated some but not a lot of discussion . Someone referenced it here again a week or so ago .
One of the most interesting bits in the article was the “ game model” and how the Academy would work on a flexible style of play with 3 different models , 442, 343, 433 and how players would be coached to be flexible . We’ve been doing that since pre season in the u17/u18 games I’ve watched streams of . But it didn’t happen last night, which is a worry. I wouldn’t disagree with Keith Southern’s statement but saying “ We asked for more effort and energy “ at half time smacks of a lack of tactical nous of what was wrong and the changes that needed to be made in the shape we were playing , even if done with the same players.
We are somewhat worryingly currently advertising for Southerns old job as U21 assistant so it would seem him move to 18s boss is permanent as well

Would like to see us offer Carsley full control of all age ranges of the academy - he may take it if we ring fence the funding and give him sole charge in terms of staff and decision making etc.
That’s the Academy Director role currently occupied by Gareth Prosser , something Alan Irvine did over 10 years ago, it’s a significant demotion now for Carsely unless we significantly change the organisation, get rid of Prosser and Thelwell in favour of Carsely , attractive to one person on here I know . We would then have to have a Brighton type operation with the owner and CEO making all the transfer decisions. We’re just not set up for that yet.

I'm not sure that's something either us or Carsley would entertain. If he leaves the best job in youth football, it will be to be a prem manager
I think his family come first and a prem manager job would likely mean a long commute or having to up sticks and move home for a job that could be short term if results didn`t go his way.

I’ve really liked Carsley for years , these are two posts from 2017 and 2018, sadly as ever with us we made the wrong decisions back then and missed our opportunity.

“ Yeah I agree about Lee Carsley. When Sheedy left and also when we were looking for an Academy Manager I wrote on here about Carsley taking a position with us. If Unsy moves on and takes Ebbrel with him I’d have Carsley as his replacement. He’s still got a Blues affinity , but that counts for little , we can’t afford to become a Development nursery for ex Blues, but Carsley gets it on merit with his ideas , approach and experiences with other clubs and England u21.“

Bizarre goings on at the Academy, and I must admit that solely on the basis of reading his bio I'm not enamoured with Joel Waldron who it is suggested will be in charge at least temporary. Don't know much about the guy except he's a Blue with Operations experience , so maybe I'm being harsh, but I want someone in charge of our Academy who blows the socks off any other candidates. Lee Carsley would do , but unlikely we'd get him from City . I'd be wary of extending our Dutch contingent in case they all up sticks when the Koeman's eventually leave. But it must be the right appointment showing the intent of Walsh and Moshiri.

Iirc wasn't the talk at the time that we lost our top level status, so weren't allowed to have full time training at those age groups, as opposed to it being a cost-cutting measure?

I don’t believe so mate, we’ve always had our Category 1 status , if we lost that it would have huge implications on our Academy and our club . I’m thinking , but don’t know, that we were allowed to cut training in certain age groups without it affecting our status but it had implications on recruitment .
