Mainz scored in the 5th minute with a good passing combination through the middle. Apart from a free header from a corner, Everton have hardly looked dangerous.

The German commentators were happily talking about the contrast between the English style of getting stuck in and the German youth set-up concentrating on skill. From the first half, though, the bigger Everton forwards are getting completely outmuscled, while the smaller EFC players were frequently just getting bundled over.

Good experience, anyway.

Edit: I wonder if Jensen/Graham have been promoted to the 21s team, might explain their absence from the 19s tournament squad.

It’s likely that Crellin will feature more at u21 and every season we give Jack Barrett another contract extension to sit on the u21 bench , I presume he’s still with us.

Hopefully a case of being quite aggressive with promotions and give Jensen the 21s 1 and Pickford/DL the 18s 1. Crellin/Barrett/Graham all not exactly great.

In other keeper news Dan Rose and Pat Nash have both shown why gambling on yourself as a goalie is so risky at that level. You can see why those 3 + Leban and Tyrer are staying with us despite having a overloaded squad battling for minutes.

The good news is Chelsea and City have both pinched young goalies recently which will hopefully keep the wolves at bay for our higher rated ones

Apparently we have the 'bring your son to work' commentators now, who are busy making jokes about Brexit and wondering if our trainer doesn't like the weather as he is not screaming throughout the match like the Germans. (Would have been too much to expect anyone would do any research and actually find out who Leighton Baines is.)
