Went tonight and we were poor i mean ya talking 2-3 out of 10 ! pennington looked alright until he went off injured and grant did ok but apart from that worst ive seen em play ! guessing Holgate will be in the squad for reading

1 win in the last 7 for the U21s is that?

UNSWORTH OUT, GET BILIC IN

21s play poor football, but heard behind the scenes the squad are very unhappy and are more scared to lose than try to do things to win.

The 18s play very good football, but when they move up to the next level, they don't play the same style and coaching is more negative than positive. What you see is a result of their day to day training and coaching. Don't blame the lads.

I don't watch the kids games but I was under the impression that Roberto had overseen a complete transformation from top to bottom to ensure that every age group played the same way? This appears to be a commonly accepted 'fact' as far as I'm aware.

If what you say is true then I think a lot of people have been labouring under a misconception for the past couple of years.

Bad this unless we have a bigger club to loan him out to

JONJOE KENNY’S recall has come as a “shock” to Wigan, after Everton decided to end the 18-year-old defender’s loan spell after just seven matches.

Kenny has been receiving rave notices for his performances with the Latics and played in Wigan’s 2-1 victory over Fleetwood on Saturday.

But he was recalled by the Blues, along with Calum Dyson from his loan spell at Stockport, and both played in Everton’s Under-21 clash at Manchester United on Monday.

Wigan boss Gary Caldwell could not hide his disappointment.

“I’m a little bit disappointed because, while he was doing well for us, we were also doing well for him and Everton,” said the Wigan boss.

“His career was progressing nicely here as far as I could see.

“He was getting football, he was getting experience, he was playing the right way, and a similar way to they play at Everton.

“We’re disappointed, but with a loan it’s always down to the parent club and they have every right to call him back.

“It’s come as a bit of a shock to us – we thought we’d have him until January at least.

“But he’s gone, we’ll have to deal with it, and I think we’ve got players here that can deal with it.”

Everton’s Under-21 boss David Unsworth singled out Kenny after his performance on Monday.

“I thought Jonjoe was terrific, especially when he went to right-back,” he said. “The fact that he played on Saturday and was so keen to play tonight just shows you everything what he is all about.

“I’ve been to see both Jonjoe and Calum a few times whilst they were out on loan and Joe (Royle) has been to see them as well when I haven’t.

“The clubs were raving about Jonjoe and they was raving about Calum too which is nice, it’s always nice.”

its strange bringing him back to play u21 football, i assume he'll be back to wigan or elsewhere soon enough.
dyson should go on loan to higher level than the conference.

Can't understand that recall, there's no way he would be brought back on the basis that Unsworth doesn't have enough players on the panel?? He was getting minutes with Wigan and doing well... Maybe a recall to a higher placed club, very unfair on Wigan though.

It says he was receiving 'rave notices' for his performances but the Wigan fans didn't rate him that much. From their forum:

I think Jonjoe Kenny has struggled all season as a right wing back.

He seems stuck between staying back and pushing forward. So he rarely overlaps and when he does push up and get the ball he passes back and we lose momentum.

Maybe he'd be better suited in a flat back four were he doesn't have to push to far forward.

hindleymonwafc - 19/9/2015 21:21

The lad he was up against had him for pace every time...we knew this and so did he which would explain why he kept turning it back.

Yon Mon - 19/9/2015 21:04

Maybe today Hindley but the point I was making is Kenny's like that every game.

I just don't think he's cut out for the wing back role.

hindleymonwafc - 19/9/2015 22:34

Aye..maybe you're right.

Maybe he's being played out of position and they think it's not doing him much good in the long term. As for Dyson, he needs to be playing at a higher level than the Conference. He was scoring a goal basically every game.

Even if we have got another loan move lined up it doesn't appear well handled if we blindsided the Wigan manager - going to make it a lot harder to place other loanees there or for them to get regular starts as Caldwell won't know if we are going to remove them a few games later.

Was hoping we'd set up a regular link with Wigan since the location is great for loaning our youngsters are they can still visit family/friends easily so less likely to have the isolation issues that some loanees experience.

Probably won't be this but could it be anything to do with the Coleman injury? More backup needed in that area

Nah, wouldn't worry about that. Wigan agreed to take him, knowing we could recall him at anytime. They could have said no to the terms. Stuff em if they're not happy.
