Everton Youth Teams Thread

Was my first thought too.

Highly rated kid, but nevertheless that'd be a nightmare if Coleman is a long term casualty.

Reckon the gaffer has just noticed a soft spot in the squad tbh. Browning was fine as a defender against that Swansea lad. You wouldn't want Browning at right back against a team that parks the bus at Goodison though. The lad's an out and out defender.

I reckon, both Kenny and Browning will share being back up for Coleman; one being an attacking choice, and the other being a defensive choice.

I could be wrong like. Just a hunch.

Big step up for Kenny. Mind you, the way RM is in the mood for promoting kids I wouldn't rule it out. There has to be something in the recall. I cant see it being down to poor environment at Wigan or boosting numbers for Unsworth's teams.

He is the one young player i have the biggest hopes for mate, watched him in the Under 17's Euro's and besides needing to eat a few more shredded wheat the lad looked the best player in that squad besides Roberts by a country mile

Reminded me very much of a young Baines but the opposite side

Doubt it!

Browning, Stones, Hibbert, Holgate, Pennington would all probably have a reason to play right back before Kenny

Although god knows were Hibbo is
Hibbert had a massive brace on his leg during pre-season

Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him play for us again tbh, he's constantly injured and his contract's up in the summer.

I don't know the average age of the Utd team but the average age of the Everton team is hardly eighteen I would say.

The under 21 players are feeling pressure... I bloody well hope so. The next step for them is first team premiership football. If they can't handle expectation at under 21 level they are not premiership material.

Regarding Kenny, it could be any of a number of reasons or a combination.
Too good for the first division / not good enough yet for the first division.
Needed as cover at right back.
In spite of what the Wigan manager said maybe he was not playing the style of football Everton wanted.
Still too young to be playing so much first team football and burnout a risk.

The only think we do know is that Wigan wanted to keep him.

As ever all we can do is speculate re Kenny, but for me this from the Wigan fan confirmed what I had been reading from their team sheet , that they were playing him mid field/wing back rather than right back, ahead of a back 3 or 4 "I think Jonjoe Kenny has struggled all season as a right wing back." So maybe this wasn't what Everton wanted.
I actually think that's not bad for his development, playing further forward, but he's played mainly CH or RB for our teams , with the odd game as DM. He was brought back to play CH on Monday then switched to right back. I disagree with the Wigan fans, whenever I've seen him he's shown a good ability to get forward with the ball, and I think an attacking RB is his likely position.

I think it's quite normal for this to happen with players of Kenny's age.

While players of around 20 often get sent out for full seasons to get a feel for senior football as they can't learn much more in the youth teams, at 18 players tend to be still developing. They get sent out for short spells to get a taste for the real thing, but are then brought back to make sure they keep learning the way the parent club wants them to. They are still very early in their development and you don't want them picking up bad habits that are then difficult to get rid of.

My guess is he'll be loaned out again in a couple of months on the same basis.

As for Dyson, he needs to be playing at a higher level than the Conference. He was scoring a goal basically every game.
Agree, Stockport are actually in the Division below the Conference now known as National League and are in National League North. I watched Cheltenham v Wrexham in the National League on BT Sport the other week and Wrexham play an attractive brand of football at this level, and is close enough to take our players . Our u 21s beat both Wrexham and Southport in pre season friendlies , and while not conclusive it suggests our u21s should be playing at at least this level , not the level below it. On the other hand both Dyson and Thorniley are 19 and 18 so maybe its seen as their first step up before moving to higher placed clubs on loan.

Yeah, I'd noticed before that you see him as Coleman's successor, and others seem to be giving him the big build up too. Never seen him myself, but happy to take those views as solid.
