Everton Youth Teams Thread

That says something for the strength of that u17 side if a lad we paid £6m for is a sub
Well this £6mill figure is dependent on progress we haven’t forked out anything like that. Gibson is quite a big lad for a 17 year old but the two left sided defenders who kept him out , Latibeaudiere and Panzo look even bigger , but you’re right a talented squad with even Gomes the Man U starlet not starting and Sancho back in Germany.
There’s no doubt that in terms of quality of their squads and money put into their facilities Chelsea and City are far ahead of us but that can be a disadvantage too, Panzo and Guehi the Chelsea pair have good players of a similar age / bit older ahead of them like Ampadu , Chalobah and probably others I’m not aware of. Gibson and Feeney are our best two young defenders , maybe add in Foulds , and they all have potentially a better path towards the first team if they prove good enough. We’ve proved that in the past. It’s disappointing that Gibson didn’t get more game time but he remains a youngster with exciting potential for us, though his next job is to displace Foulds or Garbutt from the U23s , nothing like healthy competition to keep him on his toes.

While on the topic of England U17s, the next batch is playing in a UEFA tournament in early November and a number of individuals have indicated they have been named in the squad . England at this level often don’t publish the full squad early, it just comes out in dribs and drabs. So far I’ve seen nothing to indicate Anthony Gordon has been selected but you’d have to think he’d be a name catching the selectors eye. Mind you Beni has managed ok without any recognition (yet) at youth level.

Gordon being top scorer in the league whilst playing in midfield, suggests it won't be long before the national selectors take notice.

You clearly know your stuff. Wednesday was the first I had heard of the new lad Beni. Is there anybody else that might be thrown into first team action from the U23’s in the next 6 months?

Has Beni ever indicated who his preference would be to play for?

Set aside an hour or two and go through this thread maybe since July mate, there are heaps of knowledgeable posters on here , opinions can differ but it a super thread with everybody respectful of the varying opinions.

Beni has been discussed on here regularly for the past 18 months, no one person would claim to be the first to spot him , despite what you may read in other threads :). It’s a big leap from U23s to PL and none should be seen as the next saviour but who knows maybe end of season , injuries etc. For me the two defenders I mentioned Morgan Feeney and Lewis Gibson are very promising but require further developing before being ready for consideration.

If you go back through the thread you will also see that there’s is a big agreement that the 16 year old attacking, goalscoring midfielder Anthony Gordon who plays for the u18s has the most potential of that generation. U23s is his next step though.

dont forget hornby (big chance if he can stay fit for any length of time)

We hosted the U16 version of the PL International Cup this weekend.

Best 9 category 1 academies from England and 3 international teams, usually their national champions (PSV, Dortmund and Marseille)

PSV beat Man City in the final.

Only results of ours I've seen are beating Marseille 2-0 and losing to City 2-0. Other team in our group was Fulham.

Checatrade Trophy match for our u21s tonight away at Mansfield. A chance maybe to give some of the u18s a chance maybe, we still have players who we’ve hardly seen like Boris Mathis.... but go one Jeffers , give Anthony Gordon a step up.

Oh god, can't wait to give the likes of Davies, kenny, Dowell, Lookman and Calvert Lewin dogs abuse and tell them they are sh@t, then we can pin all our hopes on Gordon

What a bizzarre post, you go for it and hurl dogs abuse at the youngsters if that’s what makes you happy.
Suggesting a 16 year old should play in an u21 team that we are clearly using to give youngsters who haven’t played yet a chance is hardly pinning all our hopes on Gordon. Bizzarre.
