Well this £6mill figure is dependent on progress we haven’t forked out anything like that. Gibson is quite a big lad for a 17 year old but the two left sided defenders who kept him out , Latibeaudiere and Panzo look even bigger , but you’re right a talented squad with even Gomes the Man U starlet not starting and Sancho back in Germany. That says something for the strength of that u17 side if a lad we paid £6m for is a sub
There’s no doubt that in terms of quality of their squads and money put into their facilities Chelsea and City are far ahead of us but that can be a disadvantage too, Panzo and Guehi the Chelsea pair have good players of a similar age / bit older ahead of them like Ampadu , Chalobah and probably others I’m not aware of. Gibson and Feeney are our best two young defenders , maybe add in Foulds , and they all have potentially a better path towards the first team if they prove good enough. We’ve proved that in the past. It’s disappointing that Gibson didn’t get more game time but he remains a youngster with exciting potential for us, though his next job is to displace Foulds or Garbutt from the U23s , nothing like healthy competition to keep him on his toes.
. It’s a big leap from U23s to PL and none should be seen as the next saviour but who knows maybe end of season , injuries etc. For me the two defenders I mentioned Morgan Feeney and Lewis Gibson are very promising but require further developing before being ready for consideration.
