Crackers some of the comments on here. We’ve completed commitments to our primary sponsor by taking the team to their commercial base, done it early in pre season to minimise disruption, given in excess of eleven young players the opportunity to play in front of an enthusiastic attendance in numbers they have never experienced before - and for many that played today - with the greatest of respect, never will again. And we are a laughing stock?

The experience for many today, not just the opportunity to play in front of 60,0000, but to play for the first team is invaluable in their education. If you can’t create opportunities like this for lads like Bowler, Broadhead, Williams, Gibson, Hornby to name only a few because it’s all about the game result, no wonder we are stuck in some weird time warp. Who did you want to see today instead ...Mirallas, Martina, Bolasie.....because they are the way toward?

It was disjointed, one paced and probably disappointing if you think the sole objective today was the retention of the SportPesa Cup. You never know, there is always next year! It’s done now, take the positives from what is probably acknowledged as an interruption, but a laughing stock because twenty players got game time in front of 60,000 and had an early opportunity to impress the Manager of their progress and get minutes under their belt? I probably see it differently.

Playing Stekelenburg and Niasse wound me up. Neither have any future at the club and it was a waste of a chance to play a kid or give one 90 rather than 45.

Quite a few proving they are not good enough, which we knew before the end of last season. Its a 1st team game why would we not approach it in a way which suggests we want to win? Winners win, and losers do exactly what we do, but hey ho its only pre season. I thought attitudes had changed at the club and wanted a winning mentality...... Same old same old!

But like I said there is a long way to go, they will always rattle out the fitness element as they were beaten.

They've been in training four days.

It's less than half a squad. Half of them were kids.

It's pre-season.

Stop being weird.

As I say, tough to please everyone. But in fairness, I agree with both of the selections you’ve called out. Virginia is in talks with Reading, so left with the Dutch pensioner as back up. Up front, DCL is not back, Tosun in rehab, we are light up top, so playing Simms instead of Niasse may have kinda made sense. Not sure if we had a minimum obligation to play x of last years first team squad....if it was we may have just scraped our commercial obligations. But my point was more about the result making us a laughing stock when I think on balance there is enough from today to say we can we take positives - how many - we can debate.

Embarassing! No matter what side we fielded we should have won, not really looking like a team that will trouble the top 6 sides, long way to go so hope for better next time out........

Never seen today’s game but it was a 2nd team a few days into pre-season and was about as relevant as last season 23-0 rout or whatever it was.
Saying that come back in a month and you still won’t be watching a team to trouble the top 6.
Give it a year and you may do though.
