Crackers some of the comments on here. We’ve completed commitments to our primary sponsor by taking the team to their commercial base, done it early in pre season to minimise disruption, given in excess of eleven young players the opportunity to play in front of an enthusiastic attendance in numbers they have never experienced before - and for many that played today - with the greatest of respect, never will again. And we are a laughing stock?
The experience for many today, not just the opportunity to play in front of 60,0000, but to play for the first team is invaluable in their education. If you can’t create opportunities like this for lads like Bowler, Broadhead, Williams, Gibson, Hornby to name only a few because it’s all about the game result, no wonder we are stuck in some weird time warp. Who did you want to see today instead ...Mirallas, Martina, Bolasie.....because they are the way toward?
It was disjointed, one paced and probably disappointing if you think the sole objective today was the retention of the SportPesa Cup. You never know, there is always next year! It’s done now, take the positives from what is probably acknowledged as an interruption, but a laughing stock because twenty players got game time in front of 60,000 and had an early opportunity to impress the Manager of their progress and get minutes under their belt? I probably see it differently.
Playing Stekelenburg and Niasse wound me up. Neither have any future at the club and it was a waste of a chance to play a kid or give one 90 rather than 45.
