It was my first trip to Goodison this season and in the end it was a boss one

but a few observations from the game:
- I'm getting concerned that Koeman seems to be persisting with the 2 DM's & 3 number 10's setup and I rolled my eyes into the back of my head when I first saw the starting lineup come out. What he sees in playing Gana & Schneiderlin with the Rooney/Klaassen/Sigurdsson axis of doom in front of them I genuinely don't know. I get that, individually, they're all talented players but it's shoehorning of the highest order and it's simply not working - too many 'cooks' and not enough width & creativity. He
must now see that it's not the way we should be approaching games as it changed so quickly when the subs were made that it was almost laughably obvious.
- Sigurdsson was pretty muck for the first 60 minutes but instantly improved when Davies & Niasse came on. For me it just reinforces that he, Rooney & Klaassen just aren't cut out as a three as they can't all be a 'number 10'. Only two of them should be on the field at any one time and that's only when Rooney is playing upfront, otherwise only one of them needs to play in the 'Barkley role'. I'm just concerned that Koeman is gonna keep trying to revert to the three as often as he can this season purely in order to try and justify his spending. For now I'd actually pick Sigurdsson there over the other two - Klaassen needs time and Rooney's head isn't quite there at the moment.
- I like DCL more and more with every game. He's strong, quick, good on the ball and is always keeping himself busy. He deserved a goal and the chance he got to make it 3-1 he probably should've taken, but if he improves in that side of his game he could become a real player for us. I also reckon he could work in a front two with Niasse and I think Koeman agrees, certainly based on his post-match comments, so it'll be interesting to see if he runs with that at some point soon. For now he just needs to keep working hard, the kid has the capacity to be great and his attitude seems right.
- Schneiderlin proved that, for me, he needs Tom Davies on the pitch with him. When it's just him and Gana sitting in the midfield we have absolutely no outlet. The guy is good on the ball, very good at times, but he needs a player like Davies that he can give the ball to and drive forward with. I felt sorry for Gana yesterday as he didn't have a great game and I think it was because he was trying too hard and not much was coming off for him when he tried to bring it out himself. I rate both players very much, but the value of having them both on the pitch at the same time is starting to run down.
- As for Tom Davies himself, I said the other week that he needs to be starting and I think I speak for everyone when I say that it's simply 100% justified at this point. The kid is a class act and is Everton through and through - we need him on the pitch
all the time!
- I'm not on Martina's back as much as other people as I do think he's 'ok', but Kenny is simply better and he
needs to start playing more in this team. He and Davies were fantastic when they came on and it was really heartwarming to see considering how both have come up the ranks together.
- I thought Holgate struggled at times if I'm being completely honest. Got well and truly minced by King for their goal and him and Defoe just gave him a tough time in general. I've advocated trying him out in that position but he needs to be
a lot more commanding if he's going to make it there, but again he's young and the capacity for improvement is certainly there.
- Not much else I can say about Oumar Niasse that others haven't already covered, but now I think Koeman is fully aware that this guy is the one who'll be finding the net for us this season. He's arguably the best 'goalscorer' we have at the club currently and for that reason he needs to be a regular. His attitude & application have been spot on and I've absolutely no doubt that the events of this week have provided him with a considerable dose of confidence to kick start his career here - made up for you Oumar and it's now or never mate!
- Atkinson was woefully bad, like truly
awfully bad and I'm not one to slag refs off all that much. The FA really should look into his performance but you just know they won't and that's why he in particular can get anyway with some of the bonkers calls he makes game after game.
- Best player over the 90 mins, for me, was DCL. Niasse, Davies & Kenny (ironically the three subs) also deserve huge praise.
