i really think gueye is underrated

every team needs a player who can just press and is a nuisance, even if they are not technically the best

Gueye’s a weird, vastly overrated by a bunch because his pressing, effort and ball winning abilities mask very poor passing and technical ability.

Then periodically when he’s out the team you see just how much mobility the centre of our midfield is lacking as well as guile. So a lot underrate how his presence offers more freedom to our midfielders who are better on the ball.

Basically until we have a complete midfielder in the centre of the park Gueye will remain our most important CM. He was a big miss against Huddersfield and no doubt will be against West Ham.

I'm not going to say he is some kind of Pirlo but Gueye is actually the most effective passing player we have in midfield. It's pretty evident that the team loses tempo and forward movement with the ball when he isn't there. Look at the difference in our passing between the first 3 games and Huddersfield and pick out the difference.

Now I don't think it is a good thing that this is the case. We badly need someone in midfield who can move the ball forward and hopefully Gomes can be that guy but I'm not optimistic really.

Hopefully West Ham's start to this season will mirror Crystal Palace from 12 months ago.

Except that West Ham will go on to get relegated, of course.

Travelling from Australia for this game. My first time seeing them live apart from a friendly against Melbourne City, my first game at Goodison can’t wait. West ham lost 4 on the bounce even though we usually knock over westham and Lukaku used to have a field day against them with my luck I can see us making a mistake and dropping points. Hoping that DCL continues his hot form and heading one in.

Just enjoy your first game at Goodison, get there early and walk all around the outside of the stadia and see the history of the club in pictures, hopefully ( for all of us ) Everton will come out on top to make your visit a happy one. Good luck and best wishes.
