hibbert was solid but not up against much. and when he got the ball in their half he killed any attack we had. we rely a lot on baines 's ability and energy going forward. garbutt would have unlikely been as good as baines but at least a similar mould of player.
I'm guessing Hibbert was left out there on the left with orders just to shut it down on his own, since whoever was in front of him did a particularly poor job at defending. Our attacking was very obviously coming through Coleman and the centre. I thought he was fine - solid 6 out of 10 for someone played out of position.

he was ball watching, picked up the run late and didn't have the quickness to catch up. pretty clear, watch a replay
I've played left back for 20 years and the lad had a sound game. why are you picking out a player for criticism who gave 110 % in a position he doesn't usually play, having to tackle with his wrong foot, and you don't mention someone like ross barkley who bottled every challenge he went in for.

Delighted with the victory first and foremost, poor poor performance. I think I will remember this day as the first time I have really doubted Martinez as the right man for this club (I still think he is ) . I love his philosophy and what he did last year, but starting Hibbert left back today has me baffled. Damn fortunate to get the win again and I can't believe we are only 2 points from 4th spot as things stand.

Why should RM target a new CB?`He had Jags, Distin, Stone and Alcaraz. Why another one? He should got another out and out striker.

bobby and moyes must have done a body swap its the only logical reason why since moyes got sacked from utd we can no longer control a game or make basic passes around the back.

Watch sociedad play some tiki taka magic tonight and moyes speaking fluent spanish, all part of kenwrights plan all along.

Being serious again now that was shocking today, we got outplayed by a big sam team that was playing a hoof style of football not the usual way west ham have played with sakho and valencia this season. Carroll had the time of his life against distin and i genuinely would think i was watching us trying to defend against dani alves not carl jenkinson, absolute shambles against a guy judged not good enough to even be kept for the season in an arsenal team who have no defenders.

Osman was great which for a change means he deserves some credit the rest were either bang average or poor, eto'o was a magician when he came on don't think i will ever get tired of seeing his genius in an everton shirt, such a shame we had not been a big club when he was at his prime.

I am not happy with martinez at the moment, he got it wrong in the summer not targeting a new CB and another winger and he is going to have no choice but to look for a short term option in january as he did with mcgeady because we are completely unbalanced and its hurting not only the team but individuals e.g barkley.

At the end of the day though can't complain too much, we have been awful for most the season and yet we are unbeaten in 5 and only a win away from being joint 4th so to be in that situation when you say it out loud things do look promising.

so when i say a player is great going forward but a liability in defense...how does any of the above play into that?
