Just watched the highlights, Richarlison and Walcott looks good, not sure about Siggy. Seeing the comments about the defense, looks like CBs were not at their best. How was the link up play up front between Tosun, Siggy, Walcott and Richarlison? Can't tell much from the highlights.

Excellent in the first half. Valencia then got outside Richarlison and Walcott, forcing us to be much narrower - they knew we couldn't ping a long ball with any accuracy (despite a whole season of practice last year) and we got strangled out

Encouraged with that, especially the first half. Add Pickford to that team and take out a centre back (or two) and add new additions and it looks alright. Chuffed to bits with Richarlison. Everton having a single name Brazilian AND he's boss. Can't wait for Southampton at home now.

Richarlison is gonna be epic it would be a travesty if they defence and Cm (powerful driving Reidy type) wasn’t addressed before Thursday

Looking at the three goals we gave up its comical.

The first one is literally just terrible defending by Baines, misjudges it, then doesnt get goalside, then misses on shutting anything down. He wont be starting this season anyway.

The second one is just a combination of poor play by Baines, Schneiderlin and Keane/Jags. First, Baines is no where near the player and never closes him down, giving him forever to pick out his cross. Second, Keane has no sense of positioning, feels the defender and runs front post while the defender actually goes back post. This WOULD actually be fine if him and Jags werent such a bad combination, but then Jags follows the second runner who actually does head to near post, and hands him off to Keane too late, so now BOTH of our CBs are out of position covering 1 guy, which is a problem because there are 3 attackers in the middle. Then, to top it off it STILL would be okay except Schneiderlin, who is the REAL culprit here has jogged back and made no effort to follow his man, who ends up wide open with the header. He is yards ahead of Moreno when Moreno passes it and runs to the box, and he is the only defender within 6-7 yards of Moreno so its his man. Yet he jogs slowly back while Moreno sprints past him, making sure he is too slow to get back and cover the cross. I hope hes gone, hes a lazy rat.

The disallowed goal was purely Stek with a terrible clearance, and Jags with poor positioning, playing a player onside when his teamates were yards forward.

The third goal was again simple, and terrible. Sandro just with a very bad giveaway, and then Stek with terrible goalkeeping. Any shot straight at the keeper and outside the box, no matter the height, should never go in. Fortunately, he wont be starting either.

Great post, thanks for taking apart the goals

It wasn't that bad like. We already knew Jags is finished at this level. We already knew Baines is beginning to struggle physically with the toll of being a modern day attacking full back, and he's been replaced in any case. We already knew Keane was a yard dog. We already knew Lookman had attitude issues. We already knew Steklenberg is crap. But we already knew Pickford will obviously be our keeper any way. We already knew richarlison looks decent. We already knew Walcott would give us more threat. We already knew we needed defensive reinforcements. I don't think we really learned much today. We aren't in crisis but we aren't great either. We are where we are. We need 2 or 3 in by Thursday. Be we already knew that.
