So all we lack is a spine!
Absolutely! Not saying it's easy. But for me spine is GK, CB, CM, CF. Feel like GK and CF are fine. It's CB and CM that are messy.

Shouldn't be that hard to find a centre back who is competent. But somehow we are struggling. Liverpool did for years post Hyypia/Carragher to be fair.

But the problems I see are not relegation level, as we have some genuine quality in the team and this manager has managed to get a tune out of far less quality teams.

See the children are posting drivel on here again.. some of the comments are so immature I can't be arsed coming on here after this post. We really do have some idiots and I'm sick of reading it. They do not represent true evertonians who have some class and intelligence. Time the mods started screening these pages , it's become embarrassing.

We've broken this one in 2 weeks lads, good work all round. Well done.

I love an optimist :);)

Its all about plugging gaps in the defence and linking the defence with the midfield. If we can do that, then the jigsaw pieces will all start to fit together much better.

But it does require 2 cbs and a cm in the next week.

Get busy Marco and Marcel.

I guess Sigurddson is gonna be the whopping boy this season. Always has to be one and bad as the center backs can be they were fine today

Why do our fans worry so much? We still finished 8th last year despite how crap we were you numpties and we actually have a better team now.

8th is one way to look at it. Another is that we finished 17 points above the drop (given goal differential) in a year when the bottom half of the table was very poor indeed.

It's not hard to imagine the drop being at 38 or so this season, which would mean that if we have a similar season but reverse just a few results due to leaked goals, we go down.

Last season's goal differential suggests we stole a few points in close matches; that sort of goal differential should in principle have finished 12th on 44 points.

So I'd say that a finish of 8th last season flatters to deceive regarding the state of the team, and there's reason for grave concern about the state of the center of defense. We simply cannot score enough to stay up while shipping three goals a match against good resistance, which is how the preseason has gone. If we can get that fixed, we'll be fine. If not, Silva will quickly go the way of Koeman and we'll have to bring in an anti-football manager again to try and stave off the drop.

I thought we did quite well during spells today. It's not as bad as some on here are making it out to be. Valencia are no mugs and we're not even close to the finished article. I see no real reason to panic. We finished 8th last season with a managerial team of Koeman, Rhino and BFS. We'll do what we always do, mid-table finish and do nothing in the cups. Meanwhile the same people on here will have hysterics after every win, loss and draw and wonder why nobody takes them seriously when they talk football in actual real life conversations......
