If McCarthy starts being a bit more adventurous in his passing then it may not be a problem, but at the moment I feel Everton are susceptible to being pinned back by teams that press high up the pitch.

Not that I'd put all the blame for that on Barry and McCarthy. They're getting very little in terms of an outlet from Mirallas, who is supposed to be the one to get Everton moving quickly onto the front foot.

Having said all that, the transition period we're in is bringing far better results than I ever imagined, so the vibe is still very much a positive one for me.

I reckon Barkley is destined to be playing deeper - maybe not this season but soon and when Martinez has confidence he can trust him that far back. That would solve a problem there but create another further up the pitch....in my fantasy league mind solved by getting Diego in from Wolfsburg!

How I'd love to see Everton playing with a silky no.10 like Diego.

Barkley's development is going to be interesting to watch. He has all the attributes to play as a box to box midfielder, but a lot will depend on how quickly his decision making and positional sense improve. A lot of people compare him to Gerrard, who even at his peak was never disciplined enough to earn Benitez's trust, so you never know.

He's far more suited in the role he's currently playing and looks fantastic in there.

Barkley? He's just fine there at the moment.

He has the vision and power to control games though, and to do that he needs to be further removed from where he is now.

"Eh what a nob head that Hugo Lloris is for getting knocked unconscious, let's all f***in' boo him even though he's had the guts to stay on the pitch!"

EVERTON AREN'T WE!

I hope you condemn your own fans for making monkey noises at black players.

That was a big problem on Sunday for me. I noticed that we started getting a bit of a foothold in the game in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half when we started doing the same to there central defenders and pressing them. Simply because they weren't coming at us so constantly. Our problems were magnified by the fact that Pienaar, Osman and Mirallas seemed to be in competition to see who could give the ball away most.
There may also have been a conscious decision to sit a little deeper due to concerns about the pace they have up front.

If I wanted to hear the opinions of an arsehole, I'd pay more attention to my farts.
