But Tim, the point of having a good squad is to use it.

There's nothing wrong at all with switching Lookman and Bernard for Walcott and Richarlison, for example.

So you're not against rotation. You're against playing a weak side.

But the point of having a decent squad is that you can make tweaks and still have a strong side out. I'd like there to be no more than five changes, ideally just three. But I feel Stek will start so there'll probably be six.

Squads are there to use when we need to. Not for the sake of it.

We have 25 players or so. The best team should play and the rest should fight for their places. I don't see any need for rotation this early in the season when we are approaching internationals where most of our squad will have a rest anyway.

Bernard yes. Lookman nope. He weakens us without doubt. Schneiderlin nope. Unless he's alongside Davies. But I'd prefer same midfield as Saturday. Stek absolutely not. Tosun ok. We will be at home and hopefully his confidence is higher. I still think DCL away from home though.

He doesn't 'without doubt'. He needs minutes. There's no point having him stick around if we're not gonna use him. He should start. Walcott/Richarlison available to come on.

I think it will be Schneiderlin and Davies. And I imagine Baines will come in for Digne.

How can the rest fight for their places if they don't get the minutes?

AGree on this, Lookman needs game time, we kept him for a reason, and if it was only to sit on the bench thats a poor one. Also after getting a goal on Saturday Tosun needs to pick up where he left off.
As for Stek, even if he keeps a clean sheet and makes a few saves its the wrong call, Soton must be looking at the league and will for sure rest main players, this should be a easier game then the league game, if we can get a win and a clean sheet that would give Pickford another boost, Stek doosent need that boost since his playing days are pretty much over

Hoping Lookman and Bernard start, if we can fit Richarlison in there too somehow that'd be great - but I'm unsure on which of the 3 would be best suited in the centre just behind Tosun.

There is no logic what so ever in starting steklenburg for me.
He is back up keeper. He's old. And he knows his not gettin in barring injury.
So leave him on the bench and he collects his hefty wages.

No way I’d sit Gana for this. Lookman for Walcott, Bernard for Sig, Tosun for DCL. That’s it for changes. Maybe Baines as well but Digne doesn’t do anything wrong.
