I'd rather get a right-back in January P.

We can make the striking role work with Richarlison.

Don't think we're getting a FB in January that is better than Coleman mate.

He was actually very good tonight, apart from for their goal. But I could say the same for Mina and Digne completely switched off.

Really don't see it as a priority. We don't score enough goals and if Richarlison is unfit/suspended/out of form then we need another option for that central role.

But agree it's about the quality that's available as well.

He stunk tonight P.

Killed so many attacks.

We need a forward but Coleman killed us tonight Lou.

We need so much more from his position.

Not sure about killed us C.

He was pretty much the only one doing any defending late on.

Him and Zouma looked like they had never played together which, in fact, is the case (as in on the same side of the defence). Keane going out was a weird one and I don't think Marco got that one right. It threw the whole defence off a bit.

Up against a well organised team.

Not too impressed with Digne delivery from dead balls, and at fault for Rondon goal woeful actually this evening!

But why was Digne left at the back with Rondon? Surely Zouma or Mina should have been marking him.

Murphy broke free down the right. Zouma went out to mark him, but neither Coleman nor Zouma closed him down. His cross passed between Pickford and Mina. Rondon got behind Mina and ahead of Digne and scored. It was a collective failure.

Although the forward line never played as a unit, we still outplayed Newcastle - and if we had converted our chances we would have won.

In the first half he was getting down to the byline at will and for once putting in good crosses.

All about opinions like, but think he was okay. As I said, poor for their goal but so were the rest of the defence.

Bad night at the office. But it doesn't mean they're all suddenly crap and need replacing.

It does show there's a very particular type of player needed in each role to really make the Silva system tick, though.

Well your full-back should come across and cover. He'd done the hard work by keeping up with Rondon, but for some reason stopped, probably gambling that Mina would get it.

Mina misses it and then Rondon scores.

It was dreadful defending from all four of them. And weirdly enough, I can't actually remember the last time a ball flashed across our box like that, and Keane has been a huge part in that. It's not until he was out today that it showed just how good he has been.

The better we play, the more likely the less creative teams are probably going to pack their defence when they play us at Goodison. Arsenal and Man City have been playing flair football for longer than us (had Martinez had some sort of clue about defending we might have been more up to speed by now) and have the players to suit. The more we continue to play attacking football, and the sooner we get a 20 goal a season striker, the sooner we will be able to break down the likes of Newcastle.

When West ham’s attack clicks, they are very potent...moreso than us. And they played on an afternoon... playing on a cold wet night is a great leveller. I would ban all night games...
Wash your mouth, some of the greatest games ever seen at the old lady have been played in the dark and cold of winter.

we get so many set pieces and do absolutely nothing with them

who could we sign purely just for set pieces?

It seems to be a lack of invention more than anything, which is strange because our first few games featured really creative set-pieces, leading to chances/goals.

Need to sort it.
