Shooting is woeful. With the lack of a striker a few players took a shot on at goal. Most went over the top of the stand. Absolutely dire stuff.

Obviously you don't get he full picture at the matxh but a few times the park end shouted for a pen and there was the lookman one before we scored from the corner ( where any of them pens) and how bad where all the challenges they kept flying into some of them looked naughty

I wouldn't say content, really, Tim. We just lacked any conviction to our play - there's a difference.

There was probably a fear of not wanting to get beat, which is understandable late on given what happened on Sunday.

Fact is we should have come out of the blocks raring to go and even though we dominated, never really threatened them until that Gyfli chance, and then we scored. After that we did nothing.

And no, we are a good team. We can have a habit of saying 'we aren't a good team' after something like this happens.

We're a work in progress, yes, but we are a good side. We proved today that if we are going to play in a certain way that Silva wants us to, though, then we have to have certain players (or types of player) in certain roles.

We started both halves really poorly. I feared all week we wouldn't react well because that's what we do. We let one bad result quickly become two, or three, or sometimes more.

It's all part of the progress. But a good team goes out and makes a statement tonight and banishes the disappointment. We never fired bar ten minutes before half time. Even a journeyman PL striker would be better than the woeful Tosun, but it will take time and more than a number 9. We lack threat far too often.

As I said, it's on the team to up the atmosphere. I 100% get that.

But it just seemed really flat from the off. And it always seems to unless we're really under the cosh or going against the grain. When I think of a Goodison night game I think of an atmosphere all the way through, and it hasn't been there for some time.

Again, I will stress that the team need to perform, but it's a two-way streak sometimes. Once Gylfi missed that chance the crowd were loud and raucous and within a few minutes we'd scored.

if they're anything like me, they're just depressed and bored of us continually offering spurts of "we're on the way back", and then another 2 or 3 years have passed with no trophy or, well, nothing. We're going in the right direction, but we do seem to constantly be going nowhere at the same time.

Far too many times we just play out to the wing and do nothing

No through balls from any attacking player

Our best chance came from a Pickford punt up the field

It’s ridiculous

For that you need players making runs off the shoulder/between defenders plus space in behind for them to run into. None of that this evening. Newcastle nullified is frankly.
Someone mentioned it earlier, if we want to become a top side we need to break teams down when they park the bus

With a dropped point Sunday and a piss poor result tonight, what a wasted opportunity to make up ground with Chelsea getting beat and Arsenal drawing and could have gone 3 clear of Utd.

Really costly performance and result tonight and just adds more pressure on Monday. Sure Watford will have watched tonight and thought they will just do the same and sit in.

we only need to concentrate on united, there's no chance we'd get close to chelsea or arsenal, we never win away, these teams do at will. We'll finished above the rest of those teams like bournemouth etc but it's just a battle between us and united for 6th, that's what our aim should be.

Realistically speaking we will get overhauled. If we cannot get the points on the board now whilst they are trying to get Mourinho sacked there is now way we will keep up after!

Too much change in the second half to build up any kind of fluency. In the second half alone we had:

Lookman Tosun Rich

Lookman Rich Walcott

Bernard/Walcott DCL Rich

Disappointing tonight. Tosun puts away that great chance just before half time and we win that game. Not a good second half though, never looked like scoring to be honest.

Agree mostly mate.

The Tosun thing. It's not the quality of the player. It's more the system we play - he just doesn't suit it.

Richarlison has the pace and skill to ensure that two defenders need to go with him. That opens gaps, either by dragging them wide, dragging them back into midfield or moving in behind. Tosun can't do that, because one man can match him.

Without that space, our creative players were just faced with a black-and-white wall and ultimately we didn't have the spark to get through.
