played well enough to be one up, but defensively we have been very fortunate again.

Fellaini has been a monster, if anyone doubts what this lad can do then they need to take a long look at his game. The boy is world class, and will turn out to be a star player.

Although I doubt the same can be said for Gosling, he just simply isn't good enough.

Cahill on borrowed time???

Very entertaining first half, and commentators really appreciate the Goodison athmosphere.

You really have to admire the speed Benfica has, all their midfielders and attackers go always full speed towards our goal when they get the ball, luckily we've escaped so far!

I'm also pretty happy for our performance, has to be said, it's been one of the best overall performances from Fellaini, very comfortable with ball (mostly). Gosling is trying hard, but he just isn't up to the standards, the end product is always poor.

Looking forward of second half, COYB!

agree!

rodwell and bily need a mention too i think as they played well 1st half!

and the yak is defo getting close to being his old self!

Rodwell needs to concentrate more though. All good and well doing the little slick moves, but some of his passing has been a little astray.

Once again, our left side is working, right side not, althoug Hibbo's been decent. Cahill is lost, hopefully when every one is fit again, we'll find a right role in our team for him!

was gonna say that about gosling so i agree but just thought hes our only option and hes out of position so decided not to but totally agree he is struggling tonight!

Not too bad first half, Rodwell and particularly Fellaini were very good i thought. Some good stuff from Billy too

Cahill should have scored

Embarrassing to be honest, we are being outclassed in all over the park. No composure being shown at all and the midfield, in terms of balance, is all over the place.

European football is all about slow build up, retaining possession and passing the ball. We have Rodwell infront of the back four and Cahill and Fellaini playing behind Yakubu, there's a huge gap between the defensive and attacking midfielders.

Fellaini or Cahill should be playing alongside Rodwell, as a two man central midfield with one ahead. It reminds me of the Sigma game, the way we are set up. Basically, it's all wrong.

Bizarre mate. I think we have had majority of possession. They are a better side, but I think we are looking just as good as them.

I think Fellaini has been very composed, and to me he is not embarassing at all.

But are both playing attacking midfield? at the beginning it seemed Fellaini was playing more defensive, the problem is, neither of them is defensive-minded, and they both tend to go forward too much.

personally i thought it was the best 1st half weve had for about 6 weeks!

I think we are doing ok at the moment, can't expect good team like Benfica won't have no chance would you?

Although I am not happy we are wasting most of our possession, yes we had couple of pretty good chances, but apart from that we are failing to create with our possession!

We need to up our game, or else Benfica is going to get more chances in the second half!
