That's not how most people judge the success of a modern U23 team. Signing people and developing them in the under 23s and getting them ready for the first team is what it's all about. Holgate and DCL were rough diamonds and the U23 coaching helped get them first team ready.
There are others with first team debuts - Connolly, Browning, Pennington. These are all good players coming through.
Just because an U23 player hasn't been at EFC for life doesn't mean he's any less an U23 player coming through. Lets not forget - Man Utd signed Giggs from Man City and Beckham started off at Spurs, and everyone regards them as Man Utd academy success stories.
