Lukaku couldn't hit a barn door most games mate, Lewandowski hardly had a shot

Wouldn't go of a striker having a good tournament or not - but things like his link up play, touch, passing - ability to hold the ball up all looked impressive to me, and rather have a bloke who gets in those scoring positions and misses than one who just goes missing in games, his finishing just improves by a little he would have been sat on 4-5 goals after the group - small margins and all that

Just looked scared for me mate, euros is a massive step up from Ajax, and the pl, with the media pressures and change of climate, would be much harder to adapt to. It's just a gut feeling I guess, but can't see him in a blue shirt tbh. I'd just love to see Del Boy whip balls on to Hallers big head this year when rom decides to go missing

@CahillsCornerFlag I don't think we need to buy competition for Coleman

I think both Browning and Kenny have shown they can cut it at RB if required

Plus, Pennington can also play there if needs be

I don't see the point in spending a wedge on a back up RB when we already have competant lads in the youth squad who can play there and will do so for considerably less. Why put an obstacle in front of them?

If you argue that we want a more experienced head in there in case of emergencies, then we could probably get a journeyman in, but we already had one in Hibbo and he would have been on considerably less than whoever else we bring in for a pay day

I think Coleman should be our number 1 RB, with the goal being for us to find him some competition within the youth ranks, rather than buying some in

Again, you could play Browning tomorrow and I wouldn't have any worry whatsoever that he couldn't cut it in the first team. If there were more doubts about our young defenders, I'd agree with you, but I personally think we have some of the best young defenders in the entire league.

Pennington's composure during his appearances towards the end of last season was genuinely staggering. He looked like he'd be a first teamer for years

Less quantity more quality.

Which is exactly what we are doing. Wasnt everyone banging on this time last year and early season about our best squad in 20 years, the crux of that hasnt changed, im probably more interested in our existing players and how they may thrive under a new manager then bringing 10 players in. A touch of quality here and there is what is required, game changes.

Great post, there needs to be a pathway for acadamy players.

Completely agree with you on Kenny mate, the others (Browning and Pennington) i wouldn't be so sure on as they are basically cb's by trade (and kinds look that way shoehorned out wide) but Kenny - yeah go with him as Colemans backup this season and he won't let us down if we need him.

Only way i'd say to spend a wage on a backup for rb/lb would be on that dreaded word 'utility' player, someone like a Blind (whose a player who can play 3-4 positions well enough for a good side) but not getting in the likes of a Cleverley who is a utility player because he isnt actually good enough in any position really so has become a jack of all trades - If all that makes sense...

as for the composure of the young lads, Unsworth has given them that mate, everyone of them who has made the step up from his Under 21's has not look the slightest bit overawed - a credit to him for getting them all prepared and believing they are good enough for that level

Are our thread sponsors trying to tell us something? Mata, Pelle, Witsel and Schneiderlin all on the transfer banner...hmm???

It's a pretty valid point.

Another reason why Martinez should have gone a long long time ago.
Exactly. It's not Koeman making the errors now, they were made long ago when Martinez should have been given the boot. The board took far too long getting a new manager in. You would expect any manager to know, by July 1, exactly what he wants adding to the squad, but this can't be extended to Koeman as he's had about 5 minutes at the club.

To me it seems Koeman wasn't first choice/told us he wasn't initially interested and we looked elsewhere and waited far too long for an answer from Emery, before being rejected and turning back to Koeman.

Lesson should be don't wait weeks for answers. If a manager needs that long to decide if he wants to earn 5m a year at Everton, then he isn't the right man.
