yes they might not be good enough but when the first choices are knackered and need a game off, the sqaud players are there to do a job, especially as they are experienced. Once you remove all the experienced players are gone, the club have never bought players en masse before so how do we replace them all?

More to the point, in the scenario where barry is banned, mcCarthy injured, barkley injured, who plays central midfield if we have no osman or gibson, or naismith?

When you say the kids, without sounding like @Mikey_Fitzgerald, isnt using them as squad players the best way to see if they can progress.
Instead of Hibbert we could have options such as Browning, Holgate, Pennington & even Kenny who all have experience playing first team football.
Same with Oviedo at left back Galloway and Garbutt
Gibson is not even our 4th choice centre mid, so having a ledson/grant/williams/walsh as possibly a 6th choice centre mid instead of some old clogger isnt the worst idea

I agree that up front and on the wings that Kone, Naismith & Pienaar all need replacing, but then again we need a first choice left mid

Im not doubting players do need replacing, and in fairness Martinez has done this effectively over the past few years. the sqaud players can be shipped out, but not yet.

For the kids, you could have ledson training with the team every week for example, fitting in, ready to step in if we have a crisis, OR he could go to a midtable championship team (if he is good enough) and be fighting for promotion with them. This gives the youth player not just playing time but competitive playing time, teaches them to play in a team. and we would have scouts watching them anyway to see how they progress so they can move into the first team squad if they are good enough. Personally i think that is a hell of a lot better for their develpment at a young age.

1 centre mid (cleverley)
0 left wingers
1 forward

its mental...and 5 players out on frees in the summer...yet apparently this is a balanced and good squad and we dont really need any signings.

How do the stats work out for poor positioning or marking?

i think he has done OK when you take all things into consideration
Again supporters expecting too much too early

exactly the same as besic, massive step up and culture change in his game, never expected great things from him last year, and so far since coming back from injury he is looking to be a decent player again.

Thing is, Gibson/Naismith/Kone/Hibbert/osman/oviedo all make the team when they are needed. If for example barry is banned, McCarthy and barkley are injured, but we havent got gibson there, who plays? Ovideo covers for left wing which is low wages for two positions, which isnt bad (although squad player at best), Kone can score a goal now and again, naismith is a great finisher and has scored some important golas at times, hibbert is experience even behind the scenes alongside the young players etc

This is the type of impact you would have selling squad players, and who plays the squad role like they do if they are all gone? the kids? Arent they better loaned out playing every week? I would argue only Mcgeady / piennar / Mcaleny (who isnt worth anything really) are the only ones we wouldn't miss at all at the club if they went now. the others, finish thier contracts sure but keep them for the time being.

Obviously naismith is being sold so fair enough if he is gone already.

We could lose McGeady with no issue at all and not have a need for a replacement.

Gibson is a weird one - I can see us letting him go, but ideally O think we'd need a replacement in.

However, that doesn't mean we'd need a central midfielder. Barkley has been playing deeper in the last few games, and he's more than capable of playing that role.

So selling/loaning Gibbo and Naismith, and drafting in one player for the first team would probably be fine and may be what RM is hoping for.

The manager who has struggled defensivley for years is going to change his entire style? More importantly would you even want the team to completely change in that situation?!

Well, if you add up all those players i listed then thats an enormous amount of wages saved already...

transfer fees could be about £20mil.

Lets say we sign Tarashaj for £3mil, then go for Byram and Dembele whose contracts are up in the summer-- call it £10mil for those two = £13mil spent on 3 players to fill 3 squad positions.

Then we have the £50mil additional income this season for another 4-6 players....with a huge amount of wage budget left.
