Everton: title contenders

Whilst I was in a daze today and daydreaming of stuffing Arsenal 5-0 on Sunday and winning the title I was thinking it would be a good quiz question in years to come if that happened. "What manager won the fa cup, got relegated yet won the premier league in the space of 12 months". Simple things amuse my simple mind so thought I would share that chestnut with you all.

who was it ?

I still think we'll struggle to get Europa but Thad just me being a pessimistic [Poor language removed]. Absolutely loved last night though.

Bottom line is that we have some quality players in on loan. What the Board & our rich non-benefactors need to realise, is that this is what the team is capable of with I N V E S T M E N T !!!

If they wish to get a sizeable return on their current, minimal, investment in the team, this is what they need to do.

You have to speculate to accumulate.

Just say... we won the FA cup this year. Has there ever been a manager in history that's won the FA Cup (or any cup) twice in consecutive years with different clubs? That would be some record. (y)

His about if we won the league and fa cup then!! So that would be a manager with 2 different clubs to be relegated from the premier league but wins the premier league and wins the fa cup twice. That would be ****ed up that!!!

The thing with the media and bookies is this,

Recent years Everton find themselves there or there about but never consistently sitting in the top 2 or 3. We always seem to end up as the nearly boys. Its not that we can't win it, it's that we haven't even came close in the past 25 years. For that reason we're written off before a balls kicked.

Most of us would never dream of winning the league at the start of the season, it's a hopeful top four finish. It is for me anyway. I do believe this team is good enough to win it. I also think our manager thinks anything is possible. Which runs off on the players.

Personally I think we're looking at 4/5th this season and that would a massive achievement. But there's no reason we can't finish higher. A win at the emirates and who knows what can happen.

Read the thread title and thought i'd accidentally wandered onto RAWK. Title contenders? How a word with yourself. Just like Liverpool, we are nowhere near title contenders. Top 3 will be City, Chelsea + Arsenal (unless they get unlucky with injuries). The rest are a distance behind.

We might be having a superb season and playing some great football but Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu are not Everton players, they are on loan. Take them out of our season so far and where would we be? Mid table is my guess. Barry is the only player out of those we might sign and he's 32.

Looking at our squad, all the below have to be replaced too,

Distin - 35
Piennar - 31
Osman - 32
Jagielka - 32
Howard - 34

McCarthy was immense last night, Barkley is a serious talent and hopefully a lot to come from Stones.

But this football club and Martinez in particular are going to have to find 4/5 key players in the next year or two with no money (or sell Barkley).

if we beat Arsenal on Sunday, we are title contenders, of course we are. the points you make aren't making sense. Deulofeu has only just started playing for us, and we're joint second, and Barry will be a blue at season end. That leaves Lukaku, a terrific player but one we can certainly replace. And let me get this, you're worried cos Ossie is 32 and Howard is 34? Rubbish

i really hope we qualify for Europe... just so Lukaku might be a permanent Evertonian... what a talent, love his work rate. would love to see him stay.

Along with Aston Villa? Don't be daft. What would you say if the RS started claiming the same?

To win the Prem requires a deeper squad than that which we currently possess. Not one of our starting eleven is under genuine pressure from another member of the squad for his place, and until that changes we cannot truly be regarded as title contenders. Let's see what Martinez can do in January before we start putting ribbons on any silverware.
