30th of June 2008. It came up in big capital letters just to add insult to injury.
We'd flogged AJ to Fulham for £10.5 million, losing a host of other squad players like Gravesen, Stubbs, Carsley and Fernandes. It took us two months to sign anyone - Lars Jacobsen and Segundo Castillo on frees. Closely followed by Carlo Nash (Free) and Fellaini. And I think I've made my feelings clear on that signing.

A truly dismal summer.

What a summer that was!

Getting misty-eyed about Summer Window '08 here. I hate when the football season starts and we have to wait 4 months before we can enjoy the transfer window again.

Hahahahaha!

Thank you for this piece of glorious material. Also, summer 08 was boss solely for Felli alone. And for that ONE good game Castillo had. Against Wolves i think.

Ahhhh old rhino legs I remembered him scoring a quality goal against standard liege in the europa leauge then I watched it again a few months back and realised it was a crap shot and even crapper goal keeping.

Ahhhh memories

Could you please go over it again for those of us who found it ambiguous?

Certainly mate. Fellaini is a world class all-round, box-to-box, tough tackling creative goalscoring midfielder. He was destined for great things but unfortunately allowed his career to stall by joining small club Everton in 2008, when he really should have been patient as Real Madrid and Barcelona were lining up their bids, incredibly we stole a march on El Clasico's and, thanks to some incredible wheeling and dealing, for the cut price fee of £15 million. As you well know he is worth closer to £50 million now, and Barca had to settle for Xavi and Iniesta. Fellaini completed a stellar first season with the blues by notching up more bookings than goals, tackles or accurate passes but the demanding fanbase were appeased by his loveably naff haircut - the Gwladys Street imitation wig market did a roaring trad - and his insightful interviews, where he talked of Everton being a stepping stone to better things. Of course we didn't blame Marouane, how could we? His incredible touch, vision, control, creativity and class meant we all knew he was right. It was only a matter of time before Barca, Real and the rest returned with massive bids for our rising star. The next season was memorable for Fellaini's 'maradona turn' on Bellamy; that breathtaking display of flair and trickery made the other 37+ games a blur. On that evidence we now knew a star was born, and the trouble would be keeping onto our talismanic hero. Again, little Everton pulled off a miracle in convincing him to sign a five year deal. According to reliable sources on this very forum, Fellaini was the subject of massive bids from Chelsea, Man City and other bigger clubs that would be much more suited to his natural abilities but loyalty convinced Fellaini that a £75k a week package was not as insulting as he first thought. From there on in he has gone from strength to strength. I am glad that he has said he plans to move to a Champions League club at the end of the season, and doubly glad that he forced us to insert a buyout clause, because he really deserves to be playing for a top club. I think he will go down as the greatest midfielder of a generation - Alan Ball wouldn't have been fit to lace his boots - and all I can say is, I am blessed to have seen him play in royal blue.

I hope that has cleared it up for you mate, cheers.
