They were virtually eliminated from the champions league which is why di Matteo was axed, he was never really given much credit for winning it tbh and was more like a figurehead with the players running the team. I'll give you the league facts shortly

They weren't virtually eliminated, they were eliminated. Rafael only had 1 champions league game with them, which they won 6-1.

Roman didn't want to hire DiMatteo in the first place, but due to him winning the champions league as caretaker manager, fan pressure led to him being offered the full time job. In fact Rafael was approached that Summer to take over and the first sign of weakness from DiMatteo, Roman hired Rafael literally the same day.

Last 5 matches under DiMatteo, WLDDL. They were in a slump and it was only going to get worse. Lost the Charity Shield, Super Cup and Knocked out the Champions League group stage.

Rafael finished 3rd, Semis of the League Cup and FA Cup and Won the Europa League. Roman wanted to give him a 2 year deal and they remain friends to this day, hence why he gave his recommendation to Usmanov.
No point continuing this there are reasons why he might recommend him to Everton. He was 14 points off and never at any point anywhere near challenging, it may as well have been 40 points off. Yes they'd had a real slump in form but from a very lofty position, the situation was far from irretrievable, confidence can often wain in the best of teams over certain periods

The following two seasons when the gap narrowed to only four points and then winning it comfortably showed a big difference Mourinho's change was built on a solid back four centred around skipper Terry who he immediately restored to the captaincy lineup.

Ok it took him a season longer finishing third four points behind the winners City, closing the chasm of 14 points behind the leaders of Benitez's third place finish the previous year.

Following getting much closer they completed the job the next year by winning it

He spent 98 mil the season after Rafael didn't he and he won nothing. Rafael outperformed him. The following season he spent 117 mil.

And after all that Roman got rid at the first possible moment

How can 14 points off outperform four points off - spending doesn't always bring results as others spent too. The defence bring right was crucial. The title the following season was built around their defence.

Benitez axed Terry and results went south too

No Mourinho won it 2 seasons later due to spending 200 million.

If Rafael had stayed on another season, they would probably won it that season. Mourinho won nothing that season.

Four points off, the following year refers to the year after (the four points off year) - this has gone on too long

So it had nothing to do with Fabregas, Matic, Diego Costa, Willian.

Did Rafael get a full season and a hundred million to spend.

Did Rafael have the pressure of fans on his back.

Did Rafael have John Terry who was injured for 6 weeks and struggling to get match fit.

Did Rafael have John Terry who didn't like him from day 1. It's funny because Lampard got on really well with Rafael.
