He was never crap. Hence why he kept on getting chances. We paid almost nothing for him, if he was crap he would've been easy to bomb out of the squad.

Unbelievable revisionism going on there.

16/17 season - 1 goal in 11 games
17/18 season - 4 goals in 32 games
18/19 season - 6 goals in 35 games

11 goals in 78 appearances and an all round game which was poor hence the "bambi on ice" jibes.

He's improved a lot but lets not pretend he was starting games because he was doing well he was starting games because the alternatives were even worse such as Niasse, Toshun & Sandro.

He was starting games because, even at a very young age, he showed more promise than more experienced, international strikers.

That's not a stick to beat him with, that's to his credit.

So had we kept Lukaku or signed Giroud when we tried to do you really think he would have been anything other than a bench player at the time?

Cant believe it's 2021 and people still doubt Dom yeno. It's dead weird to me.
The lad is an old style striker who works hard and improves year on year, not these flash in the pans that have a good season as a youngster then disappear.

He also spent his first couple of years playing on the wings or anywhere bar Centre Forward.

It looks like Benitez is going with the novel idea of playing wingers to supply the actual CF, it may just work.

It's just funny that the one stick the weirdos had to beat him with was the fact he didn't score enough goals and now that he does they're moaning about how he didn't score goals before he scored goals. Dead weird, they just need to admit theyre wrong and we can happily move on.

Who's doubting him?

I just find the revisionism that some do when it comes to the lad funny.

Listening to some he was always a 15 goal a season forward with good hold up play, brilliant aerial ability etc. Must have been a different DCL to the one I was watching under Silva...

One of the things with Calvert Lewin is that from the first game he played with us he was tactically really good. Koeman played him ahead of Lookman a fair bit on the wing because of his capability to compete and stop the opposition fullback get forward. He had a really good workrate, closed the opposition down well and was able to compete for any ball that went in that area of the pitch. In lieu of any proper plan he was always a reliable player to basically hold a position.

That aspect of his game has always been really good, though he is obvious told to run less these days and not to sacrifice himself as much.

He was never a top centre forward until 18 months ago, he wasn't terrible but he was better than a lot of very expensive international competition.
