With people banging on about stats and things, how did Broja’s stats compare to other players in the prem the same age (he’s 6 months younger than Gordon)?

Here’s a comparison against some players we know quite well at the same age:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin at same age played 5 games (plus 6 off the bench) - 1 goal, 0 assists.

Richarlison at a year older (when he joined the prem) played 32 (plus 6 off bench) - 5 goals, 4 assists (we payed 50m for him)

Anthony Gordon 25 games (plus 10) - 4 goals, 2 assists.

Broja 21 games (plus 11) - 6 goals.
Yeah, it was a long time ago when footy was 'slower' (but not slow!).

Joe Royle, then aged only 19, until just before the end of the 69/70 season, played all 42 games as CF scoring 23, no idea on assists but he'll have done so. He also played 5 FAC/League Cup games. All that in an era with some serious grock centre-backs. Imagine what Joe would have been worth nowadays! But we wouldn't have sold him then, we were Champions - with a 19 year old battering ram! Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe Royle!!

These days we’d sell Royal for 80mill to Spurs then clap ourselves thinking how clever we are, while they qualify for the CL.

Personally the ties to Pedro, Maupay and Toney are not the places I would go simply on the basis of the investment it would take for them to leave, in relation to the assurance of both's upside in play and profit down the line. Brereton Diaz is slightly removed from that considering the price range and contract dispute. Still Gordon's return is an opportunity for more darts with a level of assurance. It's obviously late in the market so the amount brought in is probably no more than three. Still the plausibility of a profitable sell on from the initial investment has to be factored more stringently. In my opinion that lends towards looking towards Europe.

Gonçalo Ramos, Benfica, Jonathan Burkardt, Mainz, maybe Oihan Sancet or Elye Wahi on the rawer end I think are all wiser and either less expensive or with more world class potential for the price.

Im for a Gordon sale, but the return being used correctly is of the utmost importance longterm. It's a chance to create some more profit down the line. If who we bring in is for simply survival it puts our top division status in real jeopardy down the line.

We all know we’ve got a goalscoring problem, we’ve lost our top scorer, our main striker is a crock, and our wingers don’t score enough, whereas the goals from the centre mids are non-existent. So to spend £25-30m or whatever it was on a winger with no goal threat and no pace in McNeil was mind boggling, and doesn’t bode well for the potential incomings. Whoever it is calling the shots have to get it right in this crucial week, and I personally have zero faith that they will get it right. Hope I am wrong and they make great, effective signings.

You’d be looking at Harry Kane again basically!
