Playing devil's advocate, there is a pretty good argument that our decent start in August is the main reason we survived last season.

I don't see how you can say this is a balanced squad when we had absolutely no forward options last week, and now just have Rondon for the foreseeable, until if/when we make additions. That's the definition of an unbalance squad for me.
Oh I agree that our start kept us up. But the point I am making is that a good start doesn't guarantee a good season and a bad start doesn't point to a bad season.

And overall the squad is more balanced. We started off last season with one left footer (Digne) and now we have 3. We had no 3 at the back specialists. No specialist Wing backs, and nobody who could play in a midfield 2. Even our striking options were poor. We have lost our best striker admittedly, but have brought in Ali, McNeil and Rondon (yes I know he's crap).

I think you are judging the quality of our overall squad by the quality of our attack, which I agree is not good enough right now. But overall its more balanced.

(I'm assuming Gana incoming in the above by the way)

Are our scouts stuck in France?
Thelwell’s European road trip.
Started in North West (Burnley actually) down the M6 to Wolverhampton, carried on dropped a few visits in London (possibly calling in on the way back too), now he’s hopped over on the channel ferry to France been through Paris and on now towards Germany.
Great roads over there, should be back by end of the month.

If he could swing through Austria in the next couple of days that would be ideal.
