Have said from the start I did not want him back. Part of my love of football died the day he left in 2004. He was our great hope, the best I had seen since the 80s. A blue, and he left.

But now he is back. And I love and support Everton. I am slightly sceptical as to what he can bring in regards to on the pitch influence. But, if after 2 years he has indeed lead us into a bold new era, perhaps lifting a trophy that 2 generations of our fan base has yet to see, then that would be a fitting end to his story.

He has won everything in the game. But I doubt he will want to retire without a winning medal with the name Everton on it.
