That lad seems to be really awesome... hope he can keep it up and be in the first team in a year or so.

He wasn't awesome but he was very tidy for a 17-year-old with good composure playing holding midfield. Bit like I expected James Wallace to be when he started to come through (and then got injured?). Long way to go, though, and a lot of competition in that area.

Garbutt played well on the left will make great understudy for Baines, strong defensively and as soon as he has the ball at his feet he is looking to attack, impressive display by all our boys

Hope he can stay injury free though, as i'd like our youth team to excel as it's got plenty of quality.

Interesting, because isn't that Bidwell's position as well? I got the impression that Garbutt was a central defender when he came over but he looked a bit lightweight for that tonight. Looked OK at left-back though.

I thought he played more on the right and center myself, but was out wide left tonight, some very good running up that left wing

... and Barkley just opened the scoreline against Greece. Assist by Garbutt, who made an excellent run. His cross was not very precise, but Barkley managed to overpower the two defenders and headed from 10 yards into the corner. Garbutt has been fairly impressive so far, his marauding runs remind me of Coleman (and yeah, he does tend to leave a lot of space open like the young Irishman - but then again he's 17). Good to see our guys doing well.

Yes, Garbutt had another perfect cross later in the half which should have been headed in instead of over. And Garbutt -> Barkley was a classic Baines -> Cahill goal. Both are certainly impressing me so far.
