Everton lead scramble for Maddison

What am I missing here? Player of the season for Norwich. Really? is that it? for £30m?
He has played a total of 44 games (in the championship) scored 15 goals (14 of them last season)
35 games (in league 1) scored 5 goals
14 games (in Scottish prem) scored 2 goals
Apparently he has scored an occasional worldy, but really what am I missing?
Is he not just yet another flavour of the month player?
 
If we sell Schneiderlin, Sandro, Klaasen, Funes Mori,Bolasie , Lookman ?, Besic we could generate up to 90m or thereabout, maybe more in an inflationary market. The only real loss there is Lookman and hopefully he will be staying.

If we then say that Rooney,Williams and Mirallas will also be leaving for no fees that fress up probably in excess of 35m in wages alone in a season.

We could spend 30m each on four players and have spent nothing when counting the transfer fees and savings on wages.

I didn't add in agents fees or maybe sweeteners to certain players to get them to accept a move so I have no doubt that there will be a net spend.

However, I only care about who we sign and if they help the team. Last summer we spent so much money on players and it wasn't money well spent... largely.
I think that this summer will be about consolidation , getting the squad to manageable proportions, generating a transfer fund from sales.
If, the manager and DOF can successfully put their squad together at a small cost and if next season the manager and his team can show the performances we all hope for... then, I think we may see greater transfer funds in the future.

Continuing to write blank cheques and signing the wrong players makes no sense.

Could always watch him play and not go completely off the stats?

I freely admit that I have never seen him play, therefore stats are all I have to go off and they are not good reading.
Hence the (genuine) questions, what am I missing? Is he just another 'flavour of the month?
I'm all for buying potential and I realise that ALL potential carries risk, but what makes him worth the money that is being reportedly asked for?

The fee involved (£25m) is absolute peanuts in today's market - like maybe the old £10m. I've only seen him on TV once for England U21 so won't advocate his signing based on that but his YouTube clips are good. Looks a decent prospect.

He's one of those players who when I'm sitting watching Soccer Saturday on Sky, always seens to pop up on the vidiprinter having scored a penno.
