But wouldn't that free up Doucoure and Allan to do that role when Allan gets fit? Because we have using Allan to sit deep most games and try to be the guy who breaks up plays when you see him being quite effective at running at opponents.
Hmm. I don't think either Doucoure or Allan can unlock a defence by skipping around a few players though.
Allan can drive us forward from deep but that's different. Doucoure isn't great on the ball but is good with late off-the-ball runs into the area - as we saw against Fulham, Brighton and Sheff Utd to goalscoring effect.
I think we need a real playmaker in there. But not in the James sense. In that sense of a
Grealish-type player (dare I say it, Barkley) who have the ability to retain possession high upfield and also be able to run with it at real pace and have that ability to pick a killer pass.
Perhaps that should be Iwobi for now, I wouldn't be against trying it, but it probably leaves the midfield too exposed. And I don't think Iwobi's decision making is good enough.
