Might just be preference, but I think CM has to be a strength to compete against the top teams. You can paper over weaknesses in the wide areas a little easier IMO, and CB is sufficient with the options we have compared to midfield. If we’re overrun in the middle, our center backs won’t be able to cope regardless who they are.

I used to think you were a genuine blue who was just a bit dogmatic but your recent activities, I mean in this thread today alone you have presented Tarkowski and Duffy as the players to move us on after decrying "hoofball" under Moyes and Koeman, have made it plain that your objective is just to wind people up on this forum.

Who is this "we" you speak of? Did somebody elect you as the Everton fans spokesperson, it would be weird if they elected a man who hasn't attended a live match in years or even decades and who spends the majority of his time running the club down except for a few brief periods when a Spaniard is the manager.

I think we have to shelve that ambition this season and just get safe and add points on top of that.

He's not the answer to all our problems, but I'd have Maitland-Niles in on loan in Jan if available. Slot him in as the third CM alongside Allan and Doucouré, sell one of the misfits (Delph, Gbamin or Gomes), use the misfit money to bring in a RB like the young lad from Rangers. It's a start.
