Again, what's that got to do with Unsworth/academy blocking a pathway for these kids? This kid will not be worrying he won't be "turned" into a good player here vs Southampton. They just play more academy players because they're worse than us.

I don’t think anyone is saying Unsworth is “blocking the pathway”, or at least I’m not. Unsworth clearly doesn’t have the ability as a coach to improve our youngsters, which is why many of them still look like nervous underdeveloped children at the age of 23, he’s obviously not forcing managers not to call them up for the first team or anything. But whether you want to blame Unsworth or not, our academy is clearly failing at some or all levels, because young players don’t see a progression for themselves at our club.

Well that's the discussion you jumped into.

I think the point might be you are conflating things though.

If your view is that Unsworth isnt coaching them well enough to be in the 1st team that's fair enough. But that's different, and perhaps even contradictory to saying it's his fault players arent being played.

They are either good enough to be played and are not being, which is the managers fault, or not good enough, which is partially (or wholly) Unsworths fault. If that makes sense?

Exactly, if they fall into the latter, just say hello to the 99% of academy players not PL Europe chasing level. I can't think of any players that really stood out massively under 16 that we've "ruined".

I remember Joe Williams being injured then coming back, playing about 4 games and Unsworth saying he’s ready for the first team, I mean wtf

said the same with beni, doing well in Scotland, but was poor out on loan in England. And Williams, I think is at Bristol city, no clue how he’s doing though.

Unsworth comes across as that guy in the pub, who coaches a local under 11 team. And will tell 4 or 5 will play for Man Utd

And Small is nowhere near their squad, even for a league cup match. Hes getting less opportunities than he had here.

His agent will have got a good sign on fee for the move though. Sometimes it's no more complex than that.

I definitely believe it’s that.

To answer the question though, I think Dowell, Ryan Ledson, Liam Walsh, Baningime and Lewis Gibson off the top of my head have all completely stalled in their development once they reached U23 level and all could’ve become decent players for us with better coaching. Definitely Dowell, what a waste that was, very talented lad at 17/18.

All guesswork tho
