So you're saying recently promoted Sunderland were able to bum them at home.

Sooner or later Moyes is going to need to prove that he has the ability to win these type of games at home.

We have one single injury in the entire squad — there is no excuse not to win tonight with relative ease.

….ok, Matey

I watch the highlights, at least, of every match and Burnley look OK at times, but their minus 24 goal difference makes it hard to see them getting anything here.
Hope you are correct, but they have scored just as many as us (actually 1 more away goal i think), so you would hope their porous defence can be exploited, the problem is we’re averaging something like 4 shots per game whereas they have faced 16 per game on average to end up with that goal difference.
So if we can actually produce a few decent chances for a change, we should score a few, but the question is can we produce.

I think the odd lineup on Saturday was based on an eye being on the game tonight too. Energy levels need managed, even before a weeks break.

With Tarks basically undropable it would seem, I'd like to see him go for the back 3 setup which faired so well against Leeds.

Alternatively, and I appreciate that DM will never go for this but what about.....

Pickford

Patterson JOB Brantwaithe Myko

Jimmy G Rohl Timmy I

Skiliman Dibling George

….i was thinking that was a decent point until i saw your team 😄

….as usual, it’s much more a case of posters on here setting him up for the fall. We see it every game.

All I’m doing is bringing a sense of reality that these games are difficult, in their last 3 away games Burnley have drawn at Chelsea and at the RS (as well as losing at Sunderland).
It goes in Circles.

We should be heading into this with full belief we will be taking the points.

Yeah we don't make it easy for ourselves, but we shouldn't be covering our bases before a ball has even been kicked..

Simple: anything less than 3 points today will be inept and unforgivable…

Burnley have been made to look better than they are by teams who have taken a decent lead against them sitting off and letting them back into it. We have started crap on more than one occasion in recent times and got better as the game has progressed, and changes have been made.

This could all go very Evertonly and we struggle at home against a team who does us first half and nullifies our late-game threat with their own, or we could catch them cold early doors and nullify them equally so late on.

Predictably from my kind-of-Moyes-out standpoint, I think it'll come down to the lineup and tactics we start with, and rather than go for some actual width, balance and front foot stuff to pin them back, I worry we'll go for CBs all over the show and ponderous crap that gets picked off and countered with the greatest of ease.

I would dearly love to see something like:

JP

Patterson
JOB
Branners
Aznou

Garner
KDH
Armstrong

George
Barry
Illy

But I am very sure we will see something like:

JP

JOB
Tarks
Branners
Myko

Garner
Gana

Illy
Beto
Armstrong

A result can always be a freak, however there will really be zero excuses for how we go about this game. If it's approached like most of the home games have been and we don't dominate the game then Moyes has a lot to answer for. Sitting back, keeping tight for 70 minutes and creating limited chances really won't wash it especially against a team with a defence like a sieve and with their return ticket to the Championship already booked.

We have to go after them from the off.
