Europa League

im told of Arsenal with the EL and finish six, then 8th place qualifies for the EL. It would be the second qualifying round meaning six matches just to reach the group stage.

The maximum number of clubs allowed in Europe in any division is 7. And the maximum number of clubs allowed in the CL is 5.

In Premier League's case, it basically goes like this....
1. Qualification for Champions League group stage (Man City)
2. Qualification for Champions League group stage (Man Utd)
3. Qualification for Champions League group stage (Liverpool)
4. Qualification for Champions League Play Off Round (Tottenham)
5. Qualification for Europa League Group Stage (Chelsea)
6. Qualification for Europa League Group Stage IF Winners of F.A Cup finish in top 5. (Arsenal)
7. Qualification for Europa League third qualifying round IF winners of League Cup finish in top 6. (Burnley)

If Liverpool win the CL, nothing happens since they're basically already going to finish in the top 4.
If Arsenal win the Europa League, they go into the Champions League group stage just like Man Utd did last season. But this does not mean 8th place opens up for Europa League qualification.

The only time problems would arise is if these clubs finished outside the top 7 and win both comps, but this would mean 6th and 7th in the league would completely lose out on Europe, and 4th losing out on potential CL football.

It's not true. Only 7 teams from one league can be in Europe total.

This.

Nothing complicated about it anymore.

UEFA said to make it more “fair”, that no nation will have more than 7 teams qualify for Europe in one season at the beginning of last season. Subsequently European places were revoked for “fair play”, and a cash “prize” of €100,000 was granted.
The irony being that “fair” resulted in automatic qualification for the top 4, In the top 4 leagues in fear of a breakaway “super league” being created.... through peer pressure mainly from the premier league, who, at the time were in danger from Italy at losing 4 CL spots... making it harder for weaker leagues to qualify.

So in short, we’re not in Europe minus some absolute capitulation from Burnley and us taking 6 points from our remaining games.

Good post, but I thought 4th placed in the league now gets direct entry to the CL Group Stages from this season, as opposed to having to play a match in the Play-Off round?

Is this correct?

As far as I know you can only have 7 clubs in Europe
If the RS win the CL and finish outside the top 4 they will qualify with the top 4 and two in Europa.
If the RS and finish outside the top 3, win the CL and Arsenal win the EL then both will qualify for CL along with the top 3 and 4th and 5th place in the Europa

Don't ever want to play in that Europa league again untill they change the format back to the old uefa cup system.more exciting a straight 2 legged knock out and less dead rubber games against eliminated teams.
