And this is the exact trap that May fell into, accepting the integrity of the EU but not the U.K. at the same time. We could just as easily have aside that the EU can put a border between itself and ROI and that would have done the job.
both the U.K. and the EU can police their own areas, without a NI/ROI border for any infringements of ‘illegal’ goods. Instead we have this lob sided agreement that the EU are doing their best to cause U.K. difficulties. If you look above this is not what the Protocol was for….

But the border within Ireland was a no no from the basis of the Good Friday deal. Between a rock and a hard place and always has been. The Brexit referendum should have had a second question 'do you want to the UK to break up and all become independent countries' and both questions would have to be answered in the affirmative to proceed.

Ah, so when you said that after Brexit you would blame no one but the UK government for UK affairs (being as we'd "taken back control" and all that), what you actually meant was that you'll continue blaming the EU for everything and giving the Tories a free pass.

Im not giving the Tories a free pass on this matter, however when trying to fix a problem you need to look at what is causing the issue. Whether you like it or not it’s your beloved EU…..

That’s an interesting claim, to be creative and flexible while doing absolutely nothing to fix the issue….says the woman who screwed up the EU vaccinations, initiated article 16, and did her level best to undermine AZ within the EU. How did that court case go btw…….

YOU ARE MATT HANCOCK’S LANDLORD AND I CLAIM MY £100 !!!!

@peteblue,Your interpretation (and that of HM Govt) is that it doesn’t work. The fact remains that it is working as drafted an ratified just a few short months ago.
None of this is the fault of the EU. Boris, Frost et al have bungled this county’s interests in this matter. No amount of raging about the EU, who are merely enacting what was agreed, will change this.
I doubt very much, as far as the UK is concerned, that this deal was ever oven ready, no matter how much of a turkey it has turned out to be.

You keep missing the point. We are where we are. Who’s fault that is and how we got here are irrelevant in respect of now putting it right. The Protocol or it’s application needs revisiting…..

I understand your opinion, I just disagree with it. Treaties / Deals / Contracts often produce unforeseen consequences (even if they should have been seen before signing and ratification). The EU are separate now. We have left. They are protecting their own interests as you would hope that the UK government would protect ours. There is no reason for them to want to change no matter how much we say; Oh! No one could have foreseen that!... unless they had read the document properly. Sackable offence in the corporate world you would think?

Contracts and Trade agreements invariably get amended if something is not right. No contract is perfect, ask VDL about ‘best efforts’.

So, can I just ask all of you Remainer/EU Cheerleaders, do you think there are problems with the Protocol and what you would do to fix if there are…….

The problem is that the arrangement that the government signed up to barely a few months ago (and which a lot of people, who were dismissed as "project fear" said was rubbish), is now something the government agrees is not very good. The EU didn't force anyone to sign anything, and certainly didn't force Johnson to rush through the deal rather than seek an extension, try to prorogue parliament to avoid scrutiny of the deal, and then give parliament barely a day in order to look at it before voting on it. Maybe if the people who you're most definitely not giving a free pass to hadn't done those things in order to force through something they told everyone was wonderful, we wouldn't be in this mess.

As Jacob Rees Knobhead might say, caveat emptor old boy.
