The British Empire saw our people go around the world. We extracted value from most countries, gold, precious metals, food, wood and other materials etc. Can you tell me what we extracted from Ireland other than potatoes and meat...which we could grow and rear here anyway......

ironically Pete without the likes of Henry Lawrence and his brothers from Ulster , and the Lawrence boys( People who Henry took under his wing, people like John Nicholson another protestant Ulsterman, the east india company would not have taken over half as much of India, see the sikh war's, afghan wars , perswar ect , and of cause,the Indian mutiny to see the effect they had on events .
We would have lost india and its wealth without them.

Its not really all that provocative a question (although I accept it was in the way it was directed). I've been in plenty of meetings where 'acceptable loss of life' decisions are made. Although I can't ever recall being in one where it was discussing an activity that people were actively pursuing.

Seems a perfectly legitimate question to ask.

agree on both your points: it was a fine question to ask but was delivered in a provocative manner. Mogg's mistake was going on the defensive when he should've just stuck to the actual answer.
