I don't think you even see what you are typing. You will use any excuse, obfuscation or downright anti democratic position to ensure that you get what you want. If you cannot see the damage that you and your ilk are doing to the democratic process in this country because you and Clegg and Milliband know better, then I feel sorry.....not for you, but for the ordinary voter in the country......so don't ever go on again about the poor and disadvantaged because you have shown that you are more than willing to just override their views, opinions and beliefs, because you know better.....

It is for the poor and disadvantaged that I have made these comments Pete, and I've not made them lightly.

The poor and disadvantaged will become even poorer and more disadvantaged as a result of the economic turmoil we are about to suffer.

It is in their and all our interests I believe the UK parliament should seek resolution of our future trading position before invoking article 50, and if that position is worse than the current we should not pursue that route.

If that position is indeed worse, I wonder how that vote would go after having that knowledge.

These two posts are a handy microcosm of the profound schism in the country: we've got two experienced and intelligent lads who want the same thing but believe in a different method to get there.

Saying that, the debate should focus on what is actually happening (Brexit), rather than what some wished happened (Bremain). For my money we should all get behind current Labour, for a Corbyn government will certainly look after the poor, Brexit or no Brexit.

By the way this thread, while hot in places, is more civil than Facebook/Twitter/Guardian debates. Long may it continue!

so roll over and let the bullies win no way they are all in the manure bind our time and stop the remain campain and we will win this one the eU is ready to implode do not want to be there for bailing it out!
Better if we have a good brexit and they will settle the own way as they will not cut their nose off to spite their faces also you do not show your poker hand either May will negotiate a good deal she knows how we need trade it will be bumpy , but fruitful the fear is ridiculous, if the EU was a thriving trustworthy organisation I would have voted to remain in it!

We had that knowledge beforehand, we were told how bad it would be and that WW3 would immediately follow, we voted to Leave. Do not underestimate the resolve of the people of the UK, to understand that things may indeed get worse before they get better. We have done it before and we will certainly do it again...sometimes there is a price worth paying.......

I thought this was a very good and sensible view, but then you mentioned Corbyn.......

I do agree with you though about it getting heated in places, and we must all put up our hands and admit so, yet retaining a degree of civility that may get close to the edge but rarely goes over.......

I know your feelings on Corbyn but your vote has to go somewhere, and given the choice will you still vote for him come the General Election?

Tory then? I think May and her government will do ok on Brexit, they'll be wary of losing financial influence so I don't think it'll be a disaster. Could be a steady ship for the next decade.

Ukip? Have some solid realistic ideas but seem a little disorganised on the leadership front, tho' as an anchor in a conservative coalition might be interesting.

Personally tho' my vote (and i still have one) will go Corbyn, as long as he survives up to the GE. I think his quasi-socialist principles are the ideal partner to the early post-Brexit era.

I wouldn't trust him to go to the bar and bring back the correct round of drinks tbh. It's his credibility that will scupper him, not just his beliefs...Hilary Benn would make a better leader........like you I think May will do Ok, she seems pragmatic, wants to do the right things and at the moment at least seems to be fairly robust and capable of taking people with her.......but as always, we shall see....UKIP are a party without a credible leader and without a real reason to exist.....the Libdems are just a waste of electoral space......

Discussions on our future trading position cannot start until Article 50 has been invoked, so what you're asking for isn't possible. I agree with your concerns over the likely economic future for us, at least in the short to medium term, but going against a democratically reached decision by the people of this country is a very dark road to walk. I voted Remain and am still shocked that the final result was the opposite of what I wanted, but it has to be accepted.

If the libdems can't clean up now they may as well give up, a far left labour party is perfect for them u would think?!

Completely at odds with you on Hilary Benn, he's dangerous if he has power.

Agree on May.

Undecided on the LibDems. They always got my vote back when I lived in blighty but during the coalition they didn't step up, leaving a very lightweight impression.

Ukip do have a reason to exist but they're not organised or focussed properly.

British banks preparing to leave UK over Brexit - Observer

Britain's biggest banks are preparing to move out of the country in early 2017 because of fears over the impending Brexit negotiations, while smaller banks are making plans to leave before Christmas, the chief executive of the British Bankers' Association Anthony Browne said.

"The public and political debate at the moment is taking us in the wrong direction," the Observer Sunday newspaper quoted Browne as saying in an interview.

The paper released a short extract on Saturday evening but no further comments by Browne from the interview were immediately available.

Banks in Britain depend on a European "passport" to serve clients across the 28-country European Union from one base and lenders worry that this right will end after Britain leaves the EU.

Banks have already said they are making contingency plans to move some of their operations to continental Europe if Britain does not negotiate access to the EU single market after Brexit.

Prime Minister Theresa May has said she will trigger formal talks to leave the EU by the end of March 2017 after Britain voted to leave in a referendum last June.

She has said she will fight to retain access to the single market but several EU leaders have insisted that will depend on Britain accepting free movement of workers from the EU - a condition Britain has vowed to curtail.
