The common market and EU are not necessarily the same thing.

Y or N?

They are now one and the same thing as the common Market no longer exists. The Common Market, which is what we joined, was just that a common Market to trade. This became known as the EEC the European Economic Community. We were then led down a path, without a vote, to become the EU with a Political Union and had the Lisbon Treaty foisted upon us. This started the demand for a referendum which Labour and the Libdems refused to let us have.......

So what state does Switzerland exist in?

This is true, though the way the large parts of the Remain argument was framed (eg: "We aren't part of Schengen", "We won't be made to take refugees", "We aren't part of the Euro and won't have to fund bailouts for Eurozone nations" etc) would suggest that in advance of the vote those running the Remain campaign did recognize that a majority (probably quite a bit larger than the Leave vote was) of people did hold substantial concerns about the EU and the direction it was traveling in.

I am not sure those voters were wrong to hold those concerns either, to be honest.

For sure, there are undoubtedly challenges with globalisation at the moment. I can't vouch for other folks, but I said that several times before the vote, but leaving the EU isn't going to solve those problems, and could quite feasibly make them worse.

Losing workers rights legislation when you have a Tory government can't be good news for a socialist such as yourself.

Or the masses of money spent in places like Liverpool that we won't get from Westminster.

The legislation will remain, that's a red herring....

Where money gets spent is down to government and local politicians.......

What did the EU do when the tories changed the rules for employment tribunals (for example? I could mention more but cba just now) the minute they got in in 2010?

Don't kid yerself that employment rights all came from the EU; twas the unions long before them what fought for them.

Workers rights came in place before the Eu some added later stop promoting this urban Labour myth!
When I started work Saturday morning was part of the 44 hour week it was altered before we joined the common marketor the imposed EU,

It has a trading relationship with the EU which it signed with the EEC, it has a number of bi-lateral agreements with the EU, but is not part of the EU......

That sounds like 'soft-Brexit'.

A great number of our workers rights are enshrined in EU law and directives. What about the EU investment in Liverpool?

We had a Labour government from 1997 until 2010, I suggest you take it up with them......

I used to write to my MP regularly.

They could have done more, but a lot was done by the EU at the time.

There is no such thing as 'soft' or 'hard' Brexit. It all depends on what the UK and the EU will agree to and anyone who believes there are only two scenarios has never negotiated.......

We can imagine it's a spectrum if that makes it easier, with soft at one end and hard at the other and different outcomes sitting at different points on the spectrum.

Workers rights in Eu law will be transferred into UK law. The 'EU investment in Liverpool' was our money and it will be up to our politicians to decide how and where to spend it in the future.....
