The irony that the ever ghoulish Priti Patel was famously threatening Ireland with food shortages

Not only was it incredibly tone deaf and oafish but the current events highlight just how idiotic these clowns are.
You know what the worst part is and why people kinda mock the UK populace for this?

Everyone knew this was the outcome. All the signs pointed to it, it was obvious from the outside, and yet, it still happened.

Sadly, the people who wanted fewer forens don’t eat fresh vegetables. As long as Greggs doesn’t stock out of steak bakes they won’t even notice.

Correlation does not imply causation of course (but it might)

Massive poll bounce for tories from this, not a day goes by that I hear people voicing their concerns about the Northern Ireland protocol.... On street corners, supermarkets to the local pub, its all people can talk about!

TBF not acting like idiotic children and negotiating with partners fairly and amicably will probably lead to better outcomes, and increases in the Tory polling.

Haha Id love to know what percentage of the % is from NI, significant I would think, would tank the economy and business there.

Id wish the U.K. Government some luck with that.

Also am I wrong in saying a drop of 7% of GDP in an economy of 5mill people , is less then in monetary terms of 5% a population of 67 million.

It may be a regional issue tbh…no problems by us……of course as soon as someone says there may be a shortage of XXX all the idiots run out and buy everything…so far, we appear to have fewer idiots…..
There's tons of bare shelves in the supermarkets round by me. Mostly salad stuff.

I don't think Brexit has helped, but I'd suggest there's something specific about the supply chain in the UK.

Take a step back and its quite amusing. A lot of these items shouldn't be available now. Its friggin winter! Just shows how warped our relationship to food has become.

And don't start me on supermarkets selling 'wonky' veg. It's not wonky, it's just not meeting arbitrary standards of appearance often set by the supermarkets.

Bah.

Haven't watched all of it, but has the architect of the Protocol made an appearance in this debate yet?
boris is waddling around in the back quacking about how much of a better deal he would have struck than sunak. his rank and file gestapo pay him any notice in case the worst happens (their worst) and sunak delivers a near wipe out, then the white knight returns to lead the tories back to albion in fanfare.

"If we get them reliant on turnips, when there's a bad turnip harvest they'll all be screwed and then some" "yeah yeah, we've done that before over the Irish sea with potatoes". High stakes political risk involved with dicing with famine...
