I think the important points are that the EU commission didn’t really listen to Industry. That they also determined that it was not for just new designed cars, which will be fine, but also for existing models of the same cars, which means additional design and production development for cars which may have only 2-4 years production left. I’m afraid it’s a typical do as I say approach that both Industry and Customers are going to pay for through the nose……

it will make almost no difference to cleaner air, just put more cost into cars…enjoy the ride…..

Perhaps check annex 2 of the impact assessment report and it does seem to indicate automotive manufacturers were indeed involved and consulted. There's also a feedback mechanism for wider input.

Why would they listen to industry who puts profits above planetary care? It's really past time people started changing their lifestyles.

For fairly simple reasons. Physics has a limit. You can take all of the pollutants out of a car but at ever increasing cost, it’s exponential. So if you don’t mind paying £200k for a bog standard Ford with no pollutants then fine, but the rest of us will be back to horses and bikes. This is fine in the cities, but the rest of us may find it a trifle difficult…..
