There's not nearly enough backlash for my liking.

There should be an angry mob outside David Cameron's house. I hate him even more than Johnson. Even Covid hitting this country so hard was down to him cutting the pandemic response team in spite of all evidence to the contrary, leaving us totally unprepared.

He was an irresponsible dilettante who destroyed this country and should be pilloried until his dying day.

All the crap that's followed is because of him and that Osborne cocknose.
Small comfort but he'll go down as worst prime minister of the 20th century. I mean who has stepped on their own dick in such brutal fashion? There's no one. Future politicians and historians will study this fiasco as a teaching moment in UK politics.

The usual candidates for most horrible PM (e.g. Eden, Chamberlain) failed when faced with massive geopolitical events. Urgent action was needed for the country and they got it wrong (horribly wrong for Eden, Chamberlain seems to be held in higher regard these days). The Brexit clown show was manufactured out of thin air.

Starmer has just reiterated that Labour will not go back on Brexit if elected at next election.
Àn anti tory, anti Brexit party is needed.

Labour should go all out for another referendum on Europe. They would spike the SNP guns up in Scotland if they did. I'm sure many peoiple voted SNP mainly as a way of getting back into the EU.
That and the fact that we are run by oafs like Johnson and Truss..
Actually, it's probably too late for Labour to change policy. Maybe the next time around with a different leader, by which time UK really will be in the soup.

Why have I been had the countries in the EU are in the same recession as we are - the only mistake the UK made was the permit wage is set far too high for anyone who wants to work from anywhere in the UK....... We have had a pandemic - Putin - so far too early to judge how Brexit will establish as yet imo .....
Still not joining reality then Joe.

Everyone has had a pandemic, everyone has had Putin. Not everyone is in the same mess we are.

If you think they are, you're kidding yourself.

They shouldn't. It's a distraction. An immediate reversal/referendum will consume any sort of debate on anything other than in or out and really the case needs to be much more subtle and long term.

The focus should entirely be on addressing the challenge of post Brexit UK, halting the economic mess this Tory Government has us in and protecting vulnerable people.

The damage of Brexit needs to be drip fed to the population. So they learn how ingrained it is across every part of their lives.

Hope he does not mean that....
But do you think he is being wise saying that because that would be a pretty big stick to beat him and Labour with. Don't forget that is how the Rats got in power last time " Get brexit done".

A large proportion of the population are pro eu but would never vote labour, as seen in the last election. Labour voters left them over their Brexit stance but Pro EU Tories remained with the conservatives.
Labour are stuck with Brexit for the short term at least. It’s why they are scared to really talk about it.

Agree, but he didn't become PM until well in to the 21st Century.

Joe mate, Putin and the energy crisis are affecting every country, but the EU MSs still have tariff free access to a market of over 500 million people, and freedom of movement of Labour across the EU for EU and some other citizens (e.g. the EEA).

GB has put itself right outside of this, and has to try and ride the storm of Putin and the crazy energy crisis alone.

Ireland is an open economy within the EU and is therefore vulnerable to global economic shocks. Despite this, from the EU Commission Finance Directorate:

GDP is expected to grow by 7.9% in 2022, then to moderate to 3.2% in 2023 and 3.1% in 2024 on the back of lower purchasing power and uncertainty weighing on investment. Net exports, particularly of multinational corporations, are expected to remain resilient and be the main driver of growth. Inflation is expected to peak at 8.3% this year and to remain high at 6.0% in 2023 before moderating to 2.8% in 2024. The fiscal outlook is benign, with the budget balance posting surpluses throughout the forecast years. Real GDP in Ireland grew by 10.8% q-o-q in the first quarter of 2022, a big rebound after a marked fall in the last quarter of 2021.
