It must be starting to dawn on folk who voted to leave that no freedom of movement works both ways, as does taking control of borders.

But no. Its (still) all the EU's fault.
ok, but what I find hypocritical is Merkel invited god knows who to come and live in the EU, yet uk citizens can’t travel there for more than 90 days in any 180. What gives the EU the right to say who can and can’t travel to any particular state? Let take Greece say, surely that’s the remit of the Greek government?

From outside the EU, I would imagine it is Greece's choice.

Unfortunately, another referendum on the EU is pointless. Even if common sense won and the Brexiteers were confounded, I very much doubt if the EU would let us re-join. Look at it from their point of view - do they really want to have the UK back, with probably a substantial minority of the country dead against the EU in all its forms? Even in the best case scenario, we'd have to wait years before being re-admitted, and we wouldn't have all the concessions we had before. Then if the Tories were to win a subsequent General Election, we might be looking at yet another referendum in the not too distant future.

You must remember that Brexit was one of the main reasons why Labour lost so many of the so called "red wall" seats. The last thing Starmer wants is to have another General Election where Brexit is a major issue.

The best course of action would be for a Labour/Lib Dem/SNP/Plaid Cymru/Green coalition to bring in PR, and gradually persuade the country to have closer links with the EU. Also, ban foreign and non-domestic ownership of newspapers and TV channels so that billionaires who don't live or pay taxes here can't peddle their anti-EU myths.
How about EFTA?

It isn't Joey, thats a convention from which the UK withdrew from about 20 years ago. Its not a law. Ireland actually withdrew from it this week, to our national shame I might add.
Also, it's not law anywhere that you have to seek asylum in the first country you enter into - not actual law or rule of thumb law*. The Dublin convention (I assume that's what @Joey66 thinks he's talking about) is an EU convention about processing responsibility of member states to process asylum applications. It was introduced to speed up the asylum process and stop duplication of effort in process applications. It sets out criteria to determine which country should process the application.

The EU have adopted a "new pact for immigration" which means that no one country is disproportionately affected by refugees.

Neither of these things apply to the UK as it's no longer in the EU. We have said we want to make bi-lateral arrangements with EU countries, but this far they haven't wanted to.

The UN Refugee convention doesn't state you have to apply to the first safe country you arrive in (also backed up in the UK case law) and the UN declaration of rights days you have the right to claim asylum.

It also doesn't matter if you come via small boat or not if you're "coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened”
