How much time do you reckon Joey?
With the war in Ukraine, all European countries will suffer - Putin signed an agreement with Turkey on grain yesterday & broke the agreement today - very volatile situation inflation all over - will go up ...... Fuel Germany already thinking of putting it on ration gas wise ....

Worrying times .....

Of course they are...poor writing on my behalf, but the French could help - if they cared too - to stop some of their fellow human beings drowning attempting to cross the channel...
There's about 75km of coastline where those boats take off from.
It would need patrols on all of those launching beaches to prevent them being used by traffickers. That's just not practical.
Better to use the police to track down the trafficking gangs.

But presumably you're happy with how it's progressing so far, since everyone else is "moaning" about nothing according to you?

Does anybody know how hard, if at all, they are trying to
A) stop the boats
B) stop the gangs
If the traffic was From England I suspect they'd be a lot keener and would be all over the UK to pull finger and sort it...but it isn't...so they probably aren't.

They can't shut down the beaches, there are the leisure sailers and fishermen to consider. They can't make it illegal to launch a boat from the shore any more than they could in UK.
A large trafficking operation was rounded up recently. A chain from Turkey to Germany and through the Netherlands and Belgium. Lots of rubber boats and other confiscated.

I reckon if Starmer went in with pledges to sort the NHS out, build more social housing and have another EU referendum he'd win hands down.

He would in my neck of the woods anyway.
Unfortunately, another referendum on the EU is pointless. Even if common sense won and the Brexiteers were confounded, I very much doubt if the EU would let us re-join. Look at it from their point of view - do they really want to have the UK back, with probably a substantial minority of the country dead against the EU in all its forms? Even in the best case scenario, we'd have to wait years before being re-admitted, and we wouldn't have all the concessions we had before. Then if the Tories were to win a subsequent General Election, we might be looking at yet another referendum in the not too distant future.

You must remember that Brexit was one of the main reasons why Labour lost so many of the so called "red wall" seats. The last thing Starmer wants is to have another General Election where Brexit is a major issue.

The best course of action would be for a Labour/Lib Dem/SNP/Plaid Cymru/Green coalition to bring in PR, and gradually persuade the country to have closer links with the EU. Also, ban foreign and non-domestic ownership of newspapers and TV channels so that billionaires who don't live or pay taxes here can't peddle their anti-EU myths.
