Who would have thought a centrally planned workforce would be a balls up?
Leaving (or joining) the EU is a major thing and requires a huge amount of effort, so while I think ultimately rejoining the EU would be a wonderful thing and that we should never have left it, the reality is that we have. For the next decade or so we have to show the world we're a mature and reliable country that won't chop and change as the wind changes. Sadly that means making the best of the shitty lot the Tories have left us with.Crazy listening to Starmer today.
"So let me be very clear: with Labour, Britain will not go back into the EU. We will not be joining the single market. We will not be joining a customs union.
The reason I say this is simple. Nothing about revisiting those rows will help stimulate growth or bring down food prices or help British business thrive in the modern world.
It would simply be a recipe for more division, it would distract us from taking on the challenges facing people, and it would ensure Britain remained stuck for another decade."
Of course rejoining the single market and customs union would stimulate growth and help British businesses.
What he means is he can't say it, because "more division" means the right-wing hate-machine cranking up again and making sure that Labour are entirely unelectable.
Politics is bullshit.
He's right.Crazy listening to Starmer today.

I think it's inevitable we'll end up asking to rejoin the single market and customs union within 5 years. He's right.
We've voted to leave, we aren't rejoining any time soon - there is neither the appetite in the UK or the EU.
It wasn't a good decision but we're here now, we need to manage the consequences of our decision.
Do you reckon that will be successful?I think it's inevitable we'll end up asking to rejoin the single market and customs union within 5 years.
Brexit is an unmitigated disaster. Someone needs to come out and tell the truth about it.

Why is the UK economy suffering more than other countries?
Poor economic forecasts for the UK compared to the rest of Europe suggest Brexit could be a factor.www.bbc.co.uk
Wait and see? Events may be testing your faith. Pretty balanced article. But for some reason, we are doing worse...What conclusions do you draw from that article ?…….

Exactly. Starmer is realistic to know that the good old British public will have him on toast if he does the rational, sensible national interest thing. Leaving the EU was an act of national self-harm. Rejoining the single market isn't a goer because it means the UK will have to accept all EU rules with no say in them. While it would make economic sense, it makes no political sense. Starmer knows this. The only logical thing is to rejoin the EU. This would return the UK to the single market (and all of its other benefits) with a say in how things are run. But this will take at least another generation to change.Crazy listening to Starmer today.
